It's that time of year where the sun's setting around six now and I just remembered daylight savings is on the way to kick night time into overdrive. The thought then came to me that it would be so much better to do daylight savings in reverse. Give me the extra hour of daylight when I really need it, in the winter when it's dark so long. Nobody really needs it to be bright out at 9 pm in August do they? Is this one of those things that was convenient for the farmers once upon a time and then we never bothered to change it once we went away from farming?

Farmers never cared anyway. Up with the sun, and stop when the work's done.

It evolved into a means to keep people out and about spending money as late as possible during the summer.
In the winter, it doesn't really matter much if it gets dark at 5 or 6. Nobody's going to really be out doing much anyway, other than maybe christmas shopping.

In CA the bill to get rid of it keeps stalling for whatever reason. Of course all our politicians are fucking morons so what should we expect.
I wish they would get a petition going to get it on the ballot to get rid of the damn thing once and for all. Instead of waiting for Sacramento to do it. I bet you it would pass with at least 75% in favor of it. Who likes this nonsensical bs that throws everyone off their schedule twice a year?

No, it's actually the opposite. It was never useful but people thought it might be useful when countries started becoming industrialised.
