I've played FFIII/6 before and Mario RPG. But never played Earthbound and Secret of Mana. I'm planning on going through all of them soon. But wanted to mix it up based on length and difficulty.

I'm gonna play Mario RPG again last, since it's the easiest. But otherwise I'm unsure what order to go in, how do you rank Mana and Earthbound compared to FF6?

They're all easy, tbh

I guess I would say Earthbound, but that's because I'm not good at the game.

I think most SNES RPGs will run like 15-25 hours or so?

Secret of Mana is pretty easy, Earthbound has some weird spikes with really strong enemies but is otherwise easy.

Everyone always says Mario RPG was easy but I remember having a hard time with it as a kid. >_>

The Axem Rangers, and Davy Jones, and Smithy himself, to be exact.

As a little kid it could get tricky for me, but as an adult it's really easy except Culex.

If you fight every enemy in each area you'll level up so fast and be so OP it's crazy

Illusion of Gaia actually aged really well.

Played it about a month ago again and still GOAT tier.

Most of the big SNES rpgs that I can think of (FF 6, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and SMRPG) aren't very grind-intensive; as long as you fight the vast majority of enemies you come across, you should have plenty of exp for most of the games' challenges.

In the case of SoM, make sure to level magic as you go by using up all the Girl's / Sprite's MP out in the field before getting to an Inn. Once Fairy Walnuts become available from non-Neko merchants (Neko charges double price for everything), don't hesitate to use them up out in the field and then restock once you're back in town; you'll have plenty of money if you're defeating all the enemies you come across.

(For Secret of Mana) Yeah, if youre constantly swapping weapons as they max out its easy to stay ahead of the curve. But I found Magic to always lag behind unless you make it a point to grind it occasionally.

Thanks for the tips!

Based on what I'm hearing I'm thinking in this order:

Earthbound
SoM
FFIII/6
Mario RPG

Thoughts?

For the first time out of the countless times I've played through the game, I'm trying to consciously use up all my MP between Inns (and not be so stingy with my Fairy Walnuts) in an effort to stave off major magic grinding. So far it's working out better than I expected.

Of course the problem is that the latter 4 Palaces happen in such quick succession that there's no way you're magic leveling will keep pace without some grinding. But unless you're a completionist, level 4 or so in most offensive magicks will be powerful enough to see you through to the end (and the Girl's Undine will level plenty enough naturally through Cure Water).

Also TC, if you weren't aware, the highest level of magic you can achieve at any given time corresponds to how many Mana Seeds you've unlocked. Events will happen at the 8th Seed that cap your max growth at level 7 magic for a little while, but by the endgame you'll have access to the full 8 levels. Furthermore, at that point you can actually level all magic past 8 (up to 8.99); once an element gets leveled past 8, there's a random chance for those spells to cast a supercharged version with extra animations and (I believe) greater damage / effect.

You're still missing illusion of Gaia.

Edit: probably right behind SoM. I would argue at least, could go ahead of it if you're trying to 100%.

Honestly I'd play Earthbound last. It's one of those games that are very love it or hate it so it would suck if it's the first one you play and you end up hating it. Start with Final Fantasy IMO
