Well I haven't played the gameboy version in probably 20 years. I'm just talking about the 3DS version vs the fan remake.

Both were good, but I think Samus Returns was the more polished game. It felt more like a retelling then a remake. Kind of like how Zero Mission added tons of content to the original while removing the annoying parts.

AM2R just felt like a 16 bit version of Metroid 2 with tons of useless bosses thrown in.
