My dog is free about 60% of the time. He only stays home at night, but he is free to do whatever the hell he wants while he is not home.

However, every time he realizes that I'm going out(at night), he goes crazy wanting to go with me. Most of those times is me just taking out the trash, so I let him to accompany me in those occasions.

So the question is, why my dog loves to accompany me in such a short and trivial task?

I thought dogs only loved going out bc they are trapped inside the house all the time, but that's not my dog's case.

And I repeat, he is free and happy most of the time.

Hard to say since you've given us so little information about the dog and it's breed but dogs don't solely like walks because they being couped up. Think about it, a dog could run itself ragged in any garden just plowing in circles.

Dogs like walks because of all the smells, the instinct to patrol/mark territory, be part of the pack with you, continue their routine.

Its what they understand.

Your dog seems to be very attached/inprinted to you and wants to do stuff with you as part of the pack. So when you leave the home it wants to be part of it.

Are you sure?

About him being happy outside? Well, as far as a dog can be happy, yeah, I'm pretty sure about that. He just hang out all day with other three dogs, they are his buddies.

Dunno about his breed, he is a mix of a lot of things, but he is very close to a retriever I think.

He is the laziest dog I've ever seen, he just likes to sleep, it's not hard for him to sleep like 4 straight hours, multiple times a day. He only wakes up when he thinks I'm going out.

Yeah, I can understand that, its the essence of dogs, they do that stuff. I think this might be. I've taken the dog really far from here walking(about 5 miles away), and he may think that I'm going to repeat that experience.

And yeah, he is very attached to me, no matter where I am on the house, he is always sleeping near me lol

My dog, a chow/border collie mix, wanted her walks whether it was 92 degrees or 17. We had an ice storm years ago and ran on solid ice for the next three days after that.
