Trying to apply for a job online is such bullshit. Just go in person, and if the place only offers online applications, go find a different place.

Just show up and start working and trick them into thinking they hired you.

Nah, just apply places that actually allow you to talk face to face with a manager.

tbh, most areas have small businesses and most of them don't rely on extensive online systems. Not to mention that these systems are *usually* for bottom-barrel jobs (although some major companies use similar systems for corporate as they do for retail) where you'd also make more money elsewhere.

For low-end workers, just about the only online system where it makes a lot of sense to go through the system is temp agencies because you're investing your time once and then most of that information is used to apply for a variety of jobs. Or, I guess, at anything where you might use the information to apply to multiple positions (albeit not at once)

Otherwise, applicants should just meet with the manager or owner *before* bothering with the online forms.

where I live the managers rarely can be bothered to speak to someone unless they have a complaint. back when I was job hunting, even the managers would just quip "apply online" and go back to ignoring you exist.

Weird, I switched jobs last year and got an interview with every job I applied for. Are you sure it isn't that your resume sucks?

While being pro active is indeed a good option you would be cutting yourself off from a lot of jobs by only applying in person. The ideal situation would be to do both.

You have to know where to apply.

Where I live there's Kroger, and it's extremely easy to get a job there. You don't get it the first try usually, but if you do it every month you'll get a response.

On the other hand, I tried applying to every place on a popular (low income) street nearby and one of them showed me a stack of applications they'd have to go through before mine. Aka I was wasting my time.

part of why I bother to ask if they are hiring. I'll apply to all places I can eventually but I prioritize which ones I fill out first based on which ones I think I got a better shot at.
