Board 8 > Is there anything I should know about Danganronpa before playing?

I thought this was just another PW/Zero Escape kind of game but there seems to be a more Persona aspect to it.

Should I be planning my free time to maximize talking with everyone or does it not mattet too much?

Anything else to know to avoid having a less than stellar playthough?

Wouldn't really worry about maximizing free time that badly, just use it as you see fit and you can see the rest later in an extra mode or just watch it on youtube. You can't really "maximize" it in a normal run of the game anyway, for reasons.

Nothing else to really mention as far as I can think of.

Well a playthrough topic is pretty required, but aside from that not really. You may have a better time by increasing the logic difficulty to at least normal when you get the chance.

I turned the difficulty settings down to easy, because the minigames annoyed me too much. That's my suggestion - I felt they got in the way of the story.

I really wish they put the minigames in the exploration/investigation segments, since those are pretty linear and needed more interactivity, instead of cramming them in right when the case is coming to a head.

Oh yeah, I recommend going one of the easier two difficulty things, especially on minigames, hard level really adds nothing at all. Normal logic is ok

No, this is very much a set in stone story.

The only thing you really need to know is don't look up anything about the game or characters for any reason. The newest game still has people tight lipped, but people treat spoilers for DR1 and 2 like OT Star Wars twists.

Might need help figuring out which games and shows to bother with and in which order, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it.

Playing the PS4 collection which I believe is 1 and 2 of the main series?

The writing is really fucking bad and the story makes no sense and the characters are absolutely infuriating and never well utilized, most of the logic and mystery is total garbage and has no payoff, go in with the absolute lowest expectations and you might enjoy it

A very important thing you should know is that there are tons of huge fanboys for the series who desperately try to convince you that the series is amazing because that somehow validates their opinion or something?? They literally cannot accept any flaw in the series. So just make your own opinion of it and don't wonder too much about why everyone is so obsessed with it.

I played through it mostly blind (other than knowing a little bit about the set up and what type of game it was) and I had a mostly great time with it, so I'd say no.

Anyway, all Menji needs to know is not to bother trying to "max" everybody on a regular playthrough because there's a bonus mode for it if he really wants to see all the Free Time Events, and that's already been covered.

He can figure everything else out without anyone else's help.

That isn't what he was asking though, the question was in regards to game mechanics, like whether he needed to.be balancing his time for a social link like system, or if choices mattered.

And Foolmo only gets these reactions because he has a history. He makes these posts in basically every DR topic other than the V3 ones. It's the same thing every single time. It's tiring.

And I'd argue foolmo gets those reactions because this board can't help itself in a lot of cases. If he had continued after his first post unprompted, sure. But if he just left it there I don't really see any problem with a negative opinion - with him explaining why, it's not like it was a total drive-by - being offered just because he has a history of always offering it for Danganronpa.

And note I like the series. Well, in retrospect I think I'd have trouble enjoying DR1 because I think DR2 makes it look really bad in comparison. Heck, I'm playing DRV3 right now.

Just beat Chapter 1 in the first game. I like it so far. Surprised myself that I instantly figured out the killer so gathering the clues and doing the trial was a little boring trying to get to the point.

I definitely had issues with it, but it was more or less exactly what I wanted it to be at the same time. Hard to say anything constructive without overstepping the mark.

Definitely worth a playthrough.

DR1 is indeed pretty hard to return to after the rest of the series. When I bought Reloaded I humored going in, but I knew when I bought it I was almost for sure just gonna replay DR2 instead for the 3rd time.

I wish I saved every time we had a DR playthrough here that didn't love the game and LtM and the fanboys shat on the author. Wait no I don't because I'm not a psycho who measure my self worth based on who agrees/disagrees with me about Dangan Ronpa.

It's fine if you enjoy a shitty game, I've never insulted someone for that. But if you go around saying it's good or trying to force people to love it, then yeah you deserve insults. That's just wrong and egotistical.

That's what it comes down to. I could rephrase my criticisms of the series with some nice positive spin to appease LtM's ego, but like..... why?
