What I don't understand are the people who are calling Admiral a white supremacist or racist

Let's break it down

1. Person makes a ridiculous claim about math (unless you believe they are right...yikes)
2. Admiral makes topic pointing out the lunacy
3. He gets called a racist

OK so what happened? Even if we go on the assumption that Admiral is indeed racist....even if I grant you the very claim you made....

Why are you treating this as a one-off happening that took place in a vacuum?

It's more like:

1. I used to post on 261 and people there talk about that one alt-right guy who used to be a lead moderator.
2. I ended here as a 261-fugee and ran across his posts: A bunch of alt-right stuff, incredibly ridiculous.
3. I needed help with getting a questionnaire filled for a school paper and sent him a pleasant PM asking for help
4. dude publicized my PM here, got incredibly hostile towards me and then proceeded to post more alt-right bullshit. Then he denied being alt-right, which is like ash ketchum denying he is a pokemon trainer.
5. Here we are

Because topics are separated for a reason. If you have a problem with what Admiral posted or disagree with it, you should really comment on the actual thing itself...not the messenger. This is the definition of Ad hominem and it makes your argument look weak as fuck

you're the one taking my point out of context. I never said he was alt right because of what he posted here. Perhaps you need to stop defending obviously bottom tier posters.

I think you should read my point one more time....

Actually, I despise all three of those. And I acknowledge that I've benefited from certain privileges in my life.

But this professor is using a weaponized version of the word "privilege." It's demeaning and poisonous.

Like this right here...no mention of how its race baiting...no mention of the actual article. Literally 0 substance

What a shame

Son, don't act like you have no clue of Admiral's posting history.

What does that have to do with the substance of the topic of this thread?

What does evidence of past bias have to do with casting doubt on bias being present in future discussions?

Cmon dude. Don't do this lazy bullshit.

I mean...thats as fair as I think I'll get hah. So honestly..with this topic - do you think that math perpetuates white privilege?

The examples they use in the article were Pythagorus and Pi, making people think that all of math was invented by Greeks and white people

But I gotta say...the fact that we don't use roman numerals anymore has to be some kind of argument against this whole thing...it just seems silly. As a child I never once thought anything political about math...and now its starting to seep in.

The argument is that since the historical significance of math "discoveries" are taught using the western people who discovered them (Pythagoras, Archimedes, Euclid, etc) as opposed to peoples of other nations who may have also discovered them (ancient Chinese or Indian mathematicians, for example), that it inherently makes white people seem superior because all the biggest math techniques are named after white people. The argument, as is often the case in situations like this, is basically "we need to make math less white" and the only way to do that is by erasing the historical significance of white mathematicians and replacing them in books with people of color.

Or we could just not teach who came up with stuff in Math class. Just call it "the right triangle theorem" and don't mention Pythagoras. As long as a + b = c is being known when building stuff, I don't care what it's called.
Teach all the people who came up independently with stuff in a separate class.

Told you I wasnt alt-right the first you asked, but you ignored that and then PMed me, tagged me in your topic, and called me alt-right about 3-4 more times in other topics that I saw. And now youre acting like a victim.

Attacking others and acting like a victim afterwards.

Typical leftism.

When Malcontent_Fetus and Admiral reply to each other, it's like a supermassive black hole void of racism and bile that sweeps over a gamefaqs topic like the end of times

Sometimes I think that Mal and Admiral are the same person

Then I have to remind myself that they probably wouldn't be smart enough to manage alts and different (although pretty similar) personalities like that, even online

admiral isn't alt right, he is a conservative. there is a difference, and trolls like kineth and a_goof_boy (the latter of which is a new user type that had banned accounts) just come in to sling shit at the wall and disrupt the actual topic
