Why are you treating this as a one-off happening that took place in a vacuum?

It's more like:

1. I used to post on 261 and people there talk about that one alt-right guy who used to be a lead moderator.
2. I ended here as a 261-fugee and ran across his posts: A bunch of alt-right stuff, incredibly ridiculous.
3. I needed help with getting a questionnaire filled for a school paper and sent him a pleasant PM asking for help
4. dude publicized my PM here, got incredibly hostile towards me and then proceeded to post more alt-right bullshit. Then he denied being alt-right, which is like ash ketchum denying he is a pokemon trainer.
5. Here we are

admiral isn't alt right, he is a conservative. there is a difference, and trolls like kineth and a_goof_boy (the latter of which is a new user type that had banned accounts) just come in to sling shit at the wall and disrupt the actual topic

traditional conservatism isn't racist. Bush married a hispanic, for example. Condi Rice is black, etc. No fan of Spencer is a 'traditional conservative'

There is severe insecurity among social science academia, mostly likely because many of them know they've dedicated their life to peddling nonsense while their academic peers in STEM fields are making meaningful and substantive contributions to the world. Was only a matter of time before someone articulated stupidity like this.

This is sadly not the first professor to make these kinds of comments, either.

If they realize they've been peddling nonsense than why do they continue peddling nonsense? What's stopping them from going "wow I fucked up" and going to an actual important STEM field?

The argument is that since the historical significance of math "discoveries" are taught using the western people who discovered them (Pythagoras, Archimedes, Euclid, etc) as opposed to peoples of other nations who may have also discovered them (ancient Chinese or Indian mathematicians, for example), that it inherently makes white people seem superior because all the biggest math techniques are named after white people. The argument, as is often the case in situations like this, is basically "we need to make math less white" and the only way to do that is by erasing the historical significance of white mathematicians and replacing them in books with people of color.

Ooh so this is all about White People not being allowed to have accomplishments anymore basically.

As I've only read this thread up to this post...

Actually, the argument would go that influential mathematical figures who are non-white would finally have a chance to be recognized on the same level as their white peers. What form that would take, I don't know. It's funny to see people jump to 'erasing history' and 'white people not being allowed to accomplish anything' though.
