I'm finding a new appreciation for my wife. My wife and I both work outside the home and have three children, two dogs, and a car. She usually gets home about 1-2 hours before me. I am used to having a cooked meal and the home in a reasonable condition, not always clean but she tries.

Two weeks ago, this changed. The first week, she had to travel out of state for a work conference. The second week she has had an invasive surgery that has been requiring me to provide her with nearly constant care in addition to my job.

I'm terrible at cooking but am pretty decent at cleaning. Before these last two weeks, I would get home, clean the one room I am responsible for in our home, play with my dog, and eat dinner. After that, I go to lift then watch tv till bed.

I always got very angry when she would not have the home clean when I got there. I am beginning to realize that perhaps my standards are unreasonable. I have been very stressed, and she seems to handle this without much complaint.

Since surgery, she apologizes to me every day and tells me that she doesn't know what she did to deserve me. I think I'm going to try to do more when she gets better. I'm realizing that the things I enjoy are not possible when I'm taking care of everything. I don't want her to live life like that.Love your mate. You may never know what they go through every day.
