Dentist said I had a dead tooth around a year ago. One of my lower frontal teeth; the dead tooth is slightly darker than the rest of my teeth. At the time, he said I didn't need a root canal.

A couple of months ago my orthodontist said I needed one. What to expect? The dead tooth isn't that noticeable, tbh.

The dead tooth is probably a result of a lack of brushing, tbh. I was depressed for a while a few years ago and didn't brush that often. Surprisingly, my dentist and orthodontist always said my brushing was fine.

Ah, well. It's just one tooth.

That could come from getting punched or hit.

You should get it fixed. I've been through the pain that lead up to needing a root canal and it's horrible because there is very little you can do to stop the pain.

If i ever need one i won't be conscious when they operate it. I don't care if i need to sell a fucking kidney to afford for it. I have severe case of dentist fear, i need to be medicated to even have my teeth checked.

Actually i think the biggest fear introducing thing is that fucking helpless position where you're near upside down and lay there helplessly. If i could sit in normal position (i know its not possible) my fear would be less bad.

Root canals are fine. You'll feel nothing during it, and a little sting afterwards for a few hours, but it's nothing compared to the pain of the tooth dying.

Last year I had a surprise root canal because the pain was unbearable. I called the place at 7 am and they got me in for 11. The pain was building up for a few days, but that day, couldn't do it. I was so happy when I was in the dentist chair all numbed up so I couldn't feel the pain anymore.

How much does it cost? Money is the only thing that would hold me back from getting one, because I'm broke and my parents are stingy about their doe.

In US? Probably your house and half of your possession. Even in Finland its from 500 - 700, and like 800 to it if you want to get knocked out.

According to Nerd Wallet, root canals cost an average of $700 per tooth for a front tooth root canal, and $900 per tooth for a molar root canal.

So they're not that expensive lol

Total mine cost around $2000, remember that after after a root canal, you need to go to your regular dentist to get a crown. The crown I think is the majority of the 2000.

Do you have to get a crown? Doesn't that just cover the dead tooth? My dead tooth doesn't look that bad yet.

From what I understand, it depends on the tooth. My root canal was on a molar, which is important for chewing food. The process of a root canal weakens the tooth, so the crown is there so the tooth doesn't fracture (and so it looks like a regular tooth). The teeth up front aren't really used for chewing, so you might be able to get away without a crown.

I've had a root canal and getting the procedure was the easy part. The pain leading up to it was bad. I hand to take antibiotics ten days before they would do the procedure and by then the pain had stopped.

Mine was a couple thousand dollars but I had dental insurance so ended up paying about $200.00. they put a temporary crown on it. Then two weeks after that I had to go back to my regular dentist to get fitted for the crown. That was another few hundred bucks. There are different things u can have your crown made out of, porcelain, gold, silver. Each cost is different. I did porcelain.

Good luck.

Canines and incisors won't need a crown, unless the tooth is cracked.
