The first was good and the second was one of my all time favorite games from childhood. Never understood how they could make two amazing 3D sonic games in a row then utterly fail to ever do it again.

I guess they wanted to still make 3D Sonic games, just wanted to drop the Adventure part and try out new titles. Like they probably thought Sonic Heroes sounded better than Sonic Adventure 3.
