Do you think people who use the n or g word in a "moment of anger" are actually Racist?

A 9 y/o peewee football player from Massachusetts has been BOOTED off his team after he called a player on the team the N WORD during a game and said he said it out of ANGER!!

It happened to a player for the Ludlow Lions in a game against the Amherst Hurricanes when the mother of the black player said that her son, Kordell had just called out to the refs about an illegal tackle that a player of the other team said

The Lions player who hasn't been named responded to Kordell (who plays for the Hurricanes) to "mind his own business" and then called him the n word..very LOUDLY!!.

Stacia London said about her son "He has never experienced something like this before"

That word was loud enough that officials and other players, parents and coaches heard clearly.

The Ludlow program sent an apology to the other team and say they were "ashamed" of what happened and the kid has been kicked to the curb. It said "There is no place for that kind of language in youth sports or anywhere else in society. This is definitely not the culture and attitude we are trying to insitll into these young impressionable ahletes"

But Stacia would have preferred an apology from the child himself and signed by his parents. Her husband, Michael and the offending player's parents spoke to the boy and said the adults turned it into a lesson about adversity and not reacting to provocation.

Michael said "I think he's hurt. It was the first time. He's never going to forget that. I spoke with my son. He was more mad that the game had ended than being called a particular word. It was a teachable moment"

The opposing team forfeited because they didn't have the minimum number of playeres without him and it finished at 24-0.

Do you think people use racist words such as the N or G word out of ANGER are actually racist?

9 years-old is a little young for me to think he's truly racist. But he could certainly be headed down that path. Probably heard the word and knows it's an insult towards black people, but I don't know if that means he has true-blue racist thoughts and feelings.

Hopefully, some intervention and education here can get that kid straightened out.

People aren't born racist, they develop this behaviour through the things they are taught and therefore how they perceive the world.
The word was familiar enough to the kid to be in their lexicon and as a negative term but was old enough to know it wasn't to be used in normal conversation-when you're mad, you don't filter as much.

Nope. Racists, homophobic people and any other "hate" name are normally those who go out of their way to hurl abuse at different groups. Saying a word just to get under someones skin doesn't make you racist, homophobic and so on.

at 9 he probably didn't truly mean it, but also being so young its the best time to try and teach them, that, that sort of behavior is unacceptable.

and not everyone hurls a insult makes them racist homophobic etc. in some cases they just know its the right button to push to piss the other person off. not excusing their behavior though.

I mean look at teenagers. they will call someone gay or the more insulting slurs for gay to someone they know full well is a straight person. because the average straight male teenager will take offense to it. they just want to piss you off. either way though its hateful behavior.

I'm a bit annoyed he even knows the word. Society makes a big fucking deal of censoring it everywhere so it's pretty hard to learn it without hearing someone slandering someone else.

I wish we could just stop saying words that are pointlessly inflammatory so our kids never hear it in person and it eventually gets relegated to the history books.

good luck with social media. sadly most kids even his age and younger have full blown access to the internet, and will see/hear all sorts of things they probably shouldn't. and from babysitting my niece a few times I have to say its quite a chore monitoring what she does on the internet. it gets done though.I keep a close on on her when shes on and around me, and so does my brother (her dad) sadly though due to his and the mothers jobs they have to leave her with the mothers parents a lot, until they got off of work, and they don't do jack to monitor her.

I called a girl the N word back in elementary school because she tried to hit me. I didnt say it to be racist I said it to hurt her feelings. I didnt really know what it ment. We ended up apologizing to each other and became friends.

Now fast forward, Im 28, my girlfriend is half black and my daughter is a 3rd black.

So does me calling hat girl the n word when I was a child make me a racist? Nope

Yeah people who feel compelled to validate their non-racism by saying things like I have black friends or I voted for Obama or I love Wayne Brady or My gf is half black are usually at least a little bit racist.

Well if you're accused of racism having a black gf is a pretty good point to counter that.

Why not a little of both? Some people that repeatedly and sincerely use it out of anger as a pejorative meant to disparage a person might be at least incidentally racist, if not more so. Some people just use bad language/curse words/slurs/pejoratives/what-have-you as expletives without any meaning intended when using them. I'm sure the person who stubs his toe on a table and shouts the n-word as an expletive intends to disparage the table for it being black, or is insinuating that black people are known for stubbing toes.

It's not really a harm swear word like fuck as it doesn't lend itself to verbalising a shout. The "ni" part at the start is difficult to make from a shout and the start is when the bulk of the energy of a shout is made.

Maybe not racist, but possibly prejudice.
I mean, first impressions say a lot. It takes an adult to realize that everybody is the same/different.
I try to think of myself as an ambassador when I'm not in my home city, cause it's hard not to judge someone based on region when it's apparent.
I have a joke at work about new Yorkers being rude jerks, and when a customer is rude, I'll ask where they are from when they have an accent and chuckle when they're from new York. Some people defend the up front personalities of the region, I just find it rude and a terrible way to represent your area.

Not even that. Kids are born with no care or thought toward one group or another. In early years, they can't comprehend race, they simply know that people come in all the colours they've seen, they don't think it means anything.

Prejudices appear when associations can be made, i.e. all people I've made friends with me have been my colour (because they were family) and a larger proportion of people who didn't like me were different colours (because they weren't family, they weren't compelled to make friends.)

If they never experience any differences between races when they're young because everybody acts nicely, then they don't associate colour to any negativity. They know colour doesn't do anything so when a person of different colour hurts them, their colour isn't considered a factor.

Why do you say that? Cause you assume my my girlfriend is half black and half white because I said she was only half black? Does that make you racist for automatically assuming her other half is white? Shes black/el salvadorian, Im full white, that makes my daughter Black/white/hispanic, that is what you call thirds.

That is not how math works.

You are full white = 2/2
Your wife is half Hispanic, half black = 1/2 + 1/2

That makes your daughter 2 parts white, one part Hispanic, and one part black = (2 + 1 + 1) / 4
Therefore, your daughter is half white, a quarter Hispanic, and a quarter black.
