Do you support Disney in adding Gay characters in their kid friendly shows?

13 y/o Peyton Elizabeth Lee, who is the star of Disney Channel's "Andi Mack" says she is EXCITED that there will be a gay storyline in Disney History as she said "We include. We support. We love. Everyone. No matter what. Not despite, but because of their differences. There is no us. There is no they. There is only we. Andi Mack celebrrates the human spirit in all of its glory.. You should lead whatever life you want. Love wheover you want. Don't let anyone, ever, no matter what, tell you anything else"

Season 2 of Andi Mack will mark the first time in network history where they created a storyline in which a character realizes he's gay...and it involves Cyrus Goodman (played by Joshua Rush) who discover he has feeling for a guy.

The Disney Company welcomes the change as inclusive that reflects acceptance and tolerance and celebrates the differences. They said "We constantly strive to live up to that legacy by continuing to create and share compelling storylines from our studios and media networks that entertainw ith inspirational and aspirational themes and reflect the rich diversity of the humane experience"

Cyrus will have a crush on Jonah Beck (Asher Angel who happens to be a mutual friend of Andi and shares his feeling with his friend, Buffy, played by Sofia Wylie who becomes supportive.

Cyrus' sexuality will be a main focus as the story continues throughout the series season

GLAAD and PFLAG praises the movie after seeing the episode who said that with more young people coming out, the show reflects the changing lives of teens today.

The show also stars for the first time an asian actress in the lead role as Peyton is half-chinese.

This is definitely a good idea, especially if they keep it a simple kid friendly dating situation. Gay kids need to feel like they aren't these freaks who aren't even a part of society. They need to see gay people they can relate to more often in more normal situations so the whole thing becomes more normal for them.

The fact that people try to hide homosexuality and demonize it as a result is the reason why so many people grow up with weird issues regarding it in the first place... well that and homophobic parents.

I feel like the majority of gay stuff these days is designed around lesbians since straight men are a lot more accepting of lesbians.

They oppose anything homosexual but don't have the balls to say why.

Well this is dumb. Yes you should love them despite being gay, but you shouldn't love them specifically for being gay. This is just feel-good hippy-dippy trash that they put no thought into.

As I recall Good Luck Charlie had a lesbian couple in one episode, which caused a bit of a stir.

Not particularly, but I do feel like they are generally more accepting of homosexuality as a whole.

Straight men seem to have the biggest problem with it, but of course that is mostly just a particular kind of "straight" guy who I imagine must be dealing with some personal issues of some sort. I think women are more relaxed with homosexuality since women can act a lot more "gay" without being criticized about it, while most men are heavily criticized for anything that comes off as "gay."

It's still written by adults and treating male gay acceptance as more common/acceptable is fallacious. People are more critical of ethics in kids shows as they're more impressionable, it's why most shows try to play it real safe or actively avoid any real issues.

If the story calls for it I've no issue with adding whatever they want. However when it's forced in just because reasons then that's when it becomes tiresome to say the least.

Do you consider straight characters in TV shows forced and tiresome if there isn't a reason why they need to be straight?

Straight people are representative of real world demographics, their presence is white noise. Your argument is such a strawman.

Imagine if I said " Do you consider a blue sky in TV shows forced and tiresome if there isn't a reason why it needs to be blue?" It'd be a ridiculous statement, it's usually blue, it'd be weird if a show was done in thunderstorms all the time because occassionally we have bad weather.

This stuff has become pretty standard on CN. Looking back I'm really surprised at how much society's views have changed, the fact that they can do that without invoking all of Conservative hell.

Actually yes. Heterosexual relationships in things that don't require it get tiresome too. Things such as love stories in superhero films.
