So, those of you here who actually know me may be aware that I am the proud caretaker of the internet's largest and best collection of video game metal, which I make a point to share about once every other year or so. Said collection has grown steadily over the last 15 years and has just hit a major milestone of TWO THOUSAND tracks of metal goodness.

So bust out your favorite torrent client, strap on your dancin' shoes, and get ready to rock.

(DISCLAIMER: for those of you concerned with the legality of this since you see "torrent" and automatically think "pirate" - possibly because you're a moderator and can't be assed to actually check the torrent because the mod queue is full - this collection is comprised entirely of stuff that's freely available on the internet, or at least it was at one point in time. Good luck tracking it all down on your own, though.)

I assume this is mostly metal covers of video game songs? I like video game music and metal, but "metal cover" video game music is so overdone and uninteresting to me. I'd be curious to see some that actually play around with the arrangement, but a lot of the ones I've seen/heard are just people playing a distorted guitar over the exact melody and adding a drum track that's way too loud. This is just stuff I've seen on YouTube, though, which obviously hasn't been around for 15 years so maybe people were more creative back then

8 glorious gigabytes of music. I just started the download and I'm off to the gym. I'll check it out later.

I can't even remember how many songs were on the last version I downloaded (I have since lost the external drive I had it stored on), but looks like there's plenty of new stuff on here.

For every one track that I have there's at least two I've turned down for quality. I'm very picky about what goes in my collection, and I get pickier as time goes on and I have more to choose from.

I just happened upon the review thread you made whilst Googling and it was... quite a while back.

That didn't answer the question.

Are they shitty metal covers, or actual video game music?

There are good covers, so-so covers, and shit covers, all. Some do the metal sound just to have it, and some feel more appropriate in its use. There are unfortunate medleys as well, but also the occasional decent one, yet still so many tracks that are not medleys at all.

I don't hate medleys in theory, only in 95% of practice because the songs can be jarring instead of blended together well. Even in the medleys I do like, it's clear that there wasn't enough material or creative ability to make those melodies into single, awesome songs, so they opt to mash it all together and call it good.

Compare to that 12 minute remix of the Dragon Tank theme from RS3. lol

BTW, BTB, do you remember that friend I told you about who I thought was a lot like Pinkie Pie? Well, apparently, she and other people agree so much that she decided to look a little bit like Pinkie this year for Hallow's Eve. xD

So... this dude, AnkyPancracy... he does this thing where he does a playthrough of a Mega Man game to the tune of his own covers (basically he rips off Bit Brigade). The covers are straight-up faithful renditions with no elaboration, and if you download his full versions each track is basically about five minutes of each theme on a repeating loop. Since their natural state is to be heard together during a playthrough, everything is played at the same tempo and with basically the same tuning, so I just stitched the whole thing together into one piece. THAT is what a good medley should be.

And I demand pics of said Pinkie Pie.

Can someone explain the whole process of torrenting to me? Like what I need to do to download the songs? I remember trying it once and being terribly confused. ;-;
