As an aside, there is something called double depression (doesn't really apply here though).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-vacation_blues

A person may suffer from post vacation blues after returning home or to a normal routine from a long vacation, especially if it was a pleasurable one.[2] The longer a trip lasts, the more intense the post vacation blues may be. This is because after the person returns home, they realize how boring and unsatisfactory their normal lifestyle routine is when compared to the activities he or she did while on their holiday/vacation.

It doesn't help that it was with my old friends that I never really see anymore. I feel like these days I have work friends and acquaintances but I never really interact with them, all I have is my family and my girlfriend and my loneliness.

I think the key is to figure out what you want in life so that you don't even feel like you need to go on vacation in the first place.

I know it sounds stupid but I can never be fully honest with my family. I also rarely open up emotionally to my girlfriend because I feel like she will see me as weak and not like me anymore (or use it against me).

What I need is a fucking therapist because there are so many things I keep bottled up.

Well I mean on a material level vacations are just fun, I can be happy in life and still want to go on vacations and travel.

I would always get during vacation blues

Like a feeling that even going on vacation wouldnt make me happy, and seeing all the other people having fun would just bum me out

I started taking anti-depressants and going to therapy and it didnt happen last trip I went on.

i don't understand not being open to a partner tho, that kinda defeats the purpose if you ask me

Because I am massively insecure with myself and fear she will lose attraction or resent me.

Would you want a partner like that anyway?
Better to find out now than later on.

depending on what you take you'll probably hate it for the first week or so, then it'll settle in and your mind will clear up

Like why would I hate it though.

Because if the answer is reduced libido I can't fuck with that

To be fair I am also at the start of a new relationship which would probably put me in a good mood either way but the small dose of prozac Im taking has also made me feel a lot more social

I havent experienced any side effects other than it being a bit harder to finish from sex... though really it just means it lasts longer. Ive also been worried about having that particular side effect (apparently ED is relatively common from anti-depressants) so that may have contributed

Idk dude at some point you just have to look at everything youve tried yourself and say this isnt working, maybe I need some extra help

I've been on 100mg sertraline hcl (generic zoloft) for like...6 weeks now and the only side effect I've noticed is it being a lot of work to reach sexual climax, even alone. I imagine it'd be basically impossible with somebody else, but it's not like I've tried it.

On the other hand, that's literally the only effect I've noticed, which is to say it hasn't done much for anything. Also haven't had whatever chill is talking about.

Stuff's a total mystery.

A lot of psychiatry is trial and error. A lot of people get a lot better, but there really isn't a satisfying answer why a different medication in the same class, or a different class of meds, works for some but not others.

Which is also to say, there is no such thing as a "happy pill."

Happiness is a really tricky philosophical question that's been pondered for thousands of years. The medication helps the symptoms of depression, which are a bit further reaching than just a low mood (sleep, appetite, energy, interest in things, motivation, etc).

I can imagine it being frustrating trying so many things that don't work at first though.

Yeah I have this all the time. Loosely related to wanderlust I guess. The best way to 'beat' it is by making positive plans for the future, possibly even a major lifestyle change. Keep the good vibes flowing!

The thing about happiness is it is like a a fingerprint. Everyone need a different combination of things to make it work and there is no magic happy formula.

Some people are happy when they help people., some can be depressed doing it, there is no universal recipe, there is trial and error to find out what makes you happy and at worst the search will last a lifetime to find your elusive happiness recipe
