but then talks about christmas and celebrates it loooong before december even rolls around.....at this point it's like halloween doesn't even exist

because people are so quick to get it out of the way that they stay quiet about it until a few days before it happens

but it seems like everyone wants christmas to last 2 or 3 months....

Because Christmas is a gift-giving holiday so it's way more profitable. Halloween is chump change.

Pretty much. Christmas is heavily commercialized, and everyone wants to be the first to capitalize on that, causing Christmas promotions to creep earlier and earlier. Halloween doesn't really make much outside of candy sales and bar parties in the week or so prior to it, so promoting it isn't worth the marketing costs of doing so.

That's not exactly a novel insight. Every year people complain about how early Christmas advertising is getting. It's going to keep getting earlier until some sort of widespread consumer backlash makes that creep unprofitable, and that's pretty unlikely, so you might as well get used to it.

It could be worse; Halloween could turn into the holiday most people forgot/don't give a rat's ass about: Thanksgiving.

The only time anyone cares about it is as a reminder for Black Friday sales.

They wait until the last minute to talk about any holiday besides Christmas. And in fairness to Halloween, it fares a lot better than the other major candy holiday for kids, Easter.

Which is why he has to live vicariously through media Halloween reports.

Halloween is one day, one night to be exact and as much as I love it I find it irksome that the whole of October seems to be dedicated to it these days. Once that over it's Bonfire night for us UK folk and that's even worse as idiots like to set off fireworks long before the 5th of November.

Still it's all about advertising and getting people into your stores. The media help with publicity. Christmas is obviously the biggest time of the year for most places. It's only natural the media dive onto those stories the most.

Me, I'm pissed that MORE time isn't devoted to Halloween. And it's usually no more than a week that sees attention paid to Halloween, whereas the Christmas season effectively begins with Black Friday (and decorations are in before Halloween is over).

Must be different over in the USA then. We get at least a month of it. On the plus side once it's over I can get some really neat Gothic type things dirt cheap. :)
