JACKSON, Mississippi -- The city's former mayor caught a man breaking into his vehicle, then rendered some immediate justice by paddling him, reports say.

According to the Clarion Ledger, the wife of former Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber noticed a car sitting outside the family's home as they prepared to go to church on Sunday.

Yarber went outside to check it out, saying he wanted to see if the people in the car were lost or if the vehicle was disabled.

He was startled, though, when he saw the door to his pickup truck swing open, WAPT Channel 16 reports. Yarber, a former kickboxer trained in taekwondo, kicked the door of the truck and a man fell out.

Yarber grabbed the man, identified by police as Juwan M. Bibbs, 22, and then dragged him into his garage. There he sat on the suspect and called for his daughter to get his paddle.

"He said some things that made me mad," Yarber tells the Clarion Ledger. "He asked me not to kill him because he's got a 2-month-old baby, and I'm like, 'My kids are in my house right now.'"

Yarber took his paddle and hit Bibbs on the rear, lecturing him until police arrived. The paddlng was caught on video taken by Yarber's son.

"When you break in people's stuff, it's because somebody ain't whooped your tail," Yarber says on the video.
