Xenoblade 1 was one of my fav RPGs. Idk if I'll get XB2 right away, but I'll definitely get it at some point. Should be a great RPG to have in the Switch catalogue

They all stand on they're own story wise, a la FF, so you can just pick up 2 when it comes out if you're interested. Gameplay wise they're action RPGs, similar to FFXV but much more satisfying combat wise, with more emphasis on customization and the open world at least in XB1 is far better than what they did in FFXV.

Hopefully the direct is better than the snapshot they showed us during the last direct where they showcased it.

They're a neat JRPG series that go for a big, open world kind of experience.

Xenoblade Chronicles

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (upcoming)

XC and XCX are separate game experiences with little thing them together beyond a similar battle system and existence of Nopon (a cute species similar to moogles in Final Fantasy) in both games.

You should certainly play Xenoblade Chronicles, because it is one of the best jrpgs of the last generation. Unfortunately, you can only find it on the Wii, New 3DS, or the Wii U eshop. The game has a fine cast of characters, an entertaining story, a fun battle system, a large amount of content, a (relatively) expansive world, an appealing aesthetic, and a fantastic soundtrack. The only real drawback is the game was a Wii game, so the graphics look pretty dated.

XCX is a different beast. The basic structure is the same, but they lean much more toward the open, expansive world. The world you have to explore really is impressive and arguably an improvement over XC, but they are less impressice on story, characters, soundtrack and soundtrack. The battle system in XCX is mostly improved and you get more options.
