I ask this because I need to update some of my music for when I DJ/KJ and I'm not a fan of only playing "the hits" or classics. At the same time, I also want music for my own pleasure so....
My personal preference on genres. Preferably underground music Anything prog (I like Porcupine Tree, Opeth and Pure Reason Revolution) Rap with good, intelligent lyrics (like Atmosphere, The Roots, Eminem, Outkast, Blackalicious and Childish Gambino) Metal that isn't lame (by lame, I mean like Dragonforce and most speed metal bands, I don't really like sludge or doom metal, but they're not lame) Reggae Indie-ish music (like Sondre Lerche, dredg, Kaddisfly and mewithoutyou) Preference for DJing. Give me the pop shit here too. Country (ugh) Rap with good beats Dance music EDM (I probably need the most help with this one) I'm largely ignorant of what artists have come out in these respective genres other than a meager handful so don't necessarily assume that I have a clue about a new, well-known band. --- If you're not looking for any honest discussion, agreement, meeting halfway or middle ground, don't bother arguing with me. as far as reggae goes, Dread and Terrible by Chronixx is a good album, IMO.
Mind Control by Stephen Marley is good, too. I also used to listen to Gogol Bordello, which is apparently gypsy punk --- b-bb-box ... Copied to Clipboard!

I don't have a problem with punk, new wave or emo either. Also thanks for indicating the genre.

Aesop Rock's new album The Impossible Kid is very good, he also has a collab album with Rob Sonic under the name Hail Mary Mallon called Bestiary which is very good too.
This is cheating but check out the album One Hundred by The Controls, released in 1999. It's kind of like Portishead meets Wax Tailor. --- let's positive thinking ... Copied to Clipboard!

Anything that Apathy and Celph Titled released in the last 8 years. They work separately and together a lot too. Both are excellent rappers and actually seem to have gotten better with middle age, which is really cool. Very productive guys. Lots of material.
Not as recent but if you like Slug from Atmosphere, two of his random side projects were Deep Puddle Dynamics and Dynospectrum. Both were groups that released one-off albums. Awesome stuff. Might be some of Slugs best work in the form of his contributions. --- I'm like a microphone in that I'm a microprocessor, within a cranium. You must, um, yeah. ... Copied to Clipboard!
