I think it goes without saying that there will be spoilers for the entirety of the game in this topic. We good? Good.

Honestly probably the best 3D Mario game there is, now. It's like really good. Everything leading up to the end was 9/10, and the postgame was 10/10. Peach's Castle, the 64 costume, the lobby, the courtyard, it all hit me like a ton of bricks. It's great. Just finished getting all 880 moons.

Anyway conspiracy theory about Sunshine:

When the game was revealed, this chart (lEnjqJ2) was released by Nintendo to show that Odyssey was squarely in the same camp as 64 and Sunshine- a world-spanning adventure where you explore and collect. Throughout the game's prerelease cycle, we saw evidence of both Isle Delfino and the Mushroom Kingdom on the game's world maps (K09RwLq).

So what did we get in the full game in reference to the other two games in its Mario subgenre?

Well, for Mario 64, we got the Mushroom Kingdom jam packed with references. I'll list a few: Yoshi on top of the castle, Same castle lobby music, carpet, looking up into the sky, paintings and entrance sounds, a full faithful recreation of the courtyard from 64, full faithful recreations of both the 64 model of Mario and the metal cap version, Power Stars instead of Moons in the Kingdom complete with identical pickup sounds to 64, similar trees to 64 in the Kingdom, and possibly more that I can't even remember at the moment. Point is is they didn't really hold back- there's tons of Mario 64 stuff that tickles people with nostalgia for such things.

Now let's look at Sunshine.

Nothing. We got literally nothing Sunshine related in the entire game. Even the references to Delfino island on the world map were *removed completely*. It's simply not there. No characters, costumes, or anything of the sort. Why would they do this? The most damning absence, to me, is the lack of a Shine Sprite shirt. That was the first instance of a purely cosmetic character appearance change in any Main series Super Mario game, at least I think so. When they *literally* pulled costumes out of one-off commercial appearances (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCwpeXPKJ7Q
), it just doesn't make any damn sense for them to overlook something like this. So what's the deal?

I, like at least a few others, believe that Isle Delfino will be some sort of DLC, and all of this content was only partially finished or was not worked on in order to be used to greater effect as DLC down the line. I honestly can't think of a single reason as to why something like the Shine Sprite shirt wouldn't be in the game, other than it being saved for later, as DLC or promotional material or something like that.

Also, as evidence that at least *some* work was done in game in reference to Delfino, you can see here (i1sQ9oV) that just northwest of the Mushroom kingdom, even though the texture for this area of the globe is still simply ocean, the normal mapping was never changed and light still reflects off of that particular patch of ocean as if Isle Delfino was still there. Go in game yourself and check it out if you don't believe me, it's a little easier to see in motion and not compressed in a screenshot or video.

So what do you think? Why do you think FLUDD, E. Gadd, Piantas, Nokis, Bowser Jr., Il Piantissimo, Cataquacks, durians, Shine Sprites, and goopy graffiti are all completely absent from Odyssey?

how long was it

There were 880 moons to collect. I don't have play time at the moment, the Switch is really dumb about it and I won't be able to see for a few more days. But I can assure you it was a good amount. I've played it a lot since release.

I used the parrot first and if that failed I used the toad.

Except for one moon in the Wooded kingdom which I looked up online: A Treasure Made of Coins.

Dumbest moon in the game by a fucking mile

It is. But there are 880 unique moons. In order to get 999 you would need to grind out 11900 coins to buy them from the store and tbh I don't want to do that. At least not now

Finding all of the blue coins, Pachinko, that one shine on the far away island you have to ride Yoshi on the boats for, watermelon fest, the list goes on. It's not like, REALLY HARD, it's just on the more difficult end of the spectrum for a Mario game.

But what's a nod in a game that literally has a couple entire areas from SM64 with multiple costumes and DIRECT references to 64? A "nod" may as well mean nothing in a game that gives much bigger nods to really obscure shit like a single fucking commercial, for god's sake.

Alright, that seems fair. some of those blue coins are difficult to acquire, and that pachinko machine is fundamentally broken.

Yeah but Sunshine is explicitly in those same roots. Look at the chart. It doesn't make much sense.

Also there's a Rosalina pixel art, from what I hear, so it got at least one direct reference

If the shirt in question does appear in DLC, will you post of picture of yourself, dressed as Mario from Super Mario Sunshine, playing as Mario in Super Mario Odyssey, dressed as Mario from Super Mario Sunshine, in the Isle Delfino level?

You 100%'d the game in a week...isn't that pretty unimpressive? Even assuming you played 12 hours a day (which is a lot), that's still well less than 100 hours of gameplay.

Seems underwhelming tbh

I didn't truly 100%. I'd have to grind coins forever to do that. Also I've 100%'d other games in far less time.

Also this is a platformer mang. Platformers have never taken this long for 100%.

I think it's less than 880, but after you beat the game you can buy duplicate moons (still need to buy 1 minimum from each kingdom to fill out 100%). So you have to collect all the moons, and then buy the rest up to 999 moons.
