So Andy, do you consider Johnny Fairplay, Jeff from Palau, or Jimmy Johnson quitters because they had themselves voted out or they okay because they actually got voted out?

This might sound much meaner than intended when I say this, but...Brandon in Caramoan felt like it was almost some sort of necessary "mercy kill", because the poor guy was just not well at ALL out there.

It's circumstantial.

Jonny Fairplay was far from a dud in Pearl Islands, but he should have said "no" to Micronesia after all that happened, with getting his girl pregnant, him being on narcotics, and the Danny Bonaduce alteraction. I consider his return to Micronesia to have been a wasted cast spot. So does Probst.

Jeff from Palau is a dud no matter how you look at it. He added nothing to the show.

Jimmy Johnson had himself voted out? That's not how I remember it. I remember them considering going for something else, but vaguely. Nicaragua is a bad season, though, so I'm trying to not remember it, lol. I don't believe I've referenced it in my blog at all.

Jenn refused to quit outright, so I don't see her as a quitter. There were moments after the Hali boot where she showed she had a little fight left in her. While it disappointed me to see her lose her fight, she still added a lot to the show with her idol. Note how the sig on my main account still references her idol find >_>

Brandon Hantz on Caramoan was a mercy kill. The guy needed his Adderall, but then again I don't know if that helped him or not. He clearly has issues. His contributions to the show were not good ones. Him and Shamar should not have been there - Phillip as animosity generator is enough!

I don't see Ian as a quitter, just as an idiot whose sanity eroded out of nowhere. On Day 38, you're very deprived. Some decisions like Ian's or Woo's stand out because they're extraordinarily dumb. Even when malnourished and lacking sleep, nobody should do something that stupid.

Outright laying down your torch shows you never should have gone on the show in the first place, though. If you can't take it, you're a dud.

Survivor allows you to take antidepressants or Adderall if prescribed to you, right? I wouldn't be surprised if Ben from this season was on something to control his PTSD. And there has had to be someone medicated in the past...

Brandon has to have a prescription, but it clearly wasn't helping him at the time. I feel bad for the guy given how he has a diagnosis or three.

So according to podcasts it has been understood that Jenn was considered that she was a quit because she had Mike and Shirin vote her out instead of attempting Shirin's number loophole.

According the to the TEOS, Jimmy Johnson told his tribe he was the weakest and that he should go home next. My guess is he was exhausted tired and wanted to go home. He didn't need this shit lol

For Ian, it is my understanding that he didn't think he could win against either Tom or Katie (in which I think he is wrong) and thought that letting Katie was necessary for his heart.

I could be remembering wrong, but my understanding on why Fairplay agreed to come back for Micronesia was that he was under the impression that that was his only chance to come back and that something like Heroes vs Villains wasn't going to go down, so he thought "well shit, I have to play now if I want to play again at all".

I also think Fairplay has said on podcasts and stuff that he went back assuming they'd let him take meds for his injury and then they didn't?

I don't know if that's actually true or not, but I seem to recall him saying that before.

Okay, so based on Cole's exit press, Mike actually pulled out two idols before the vote - one real, one fake - and it wasn't shown. I did a little digging into the Tribal Council and found evidence to confirm, then this happened:

I officially like Cole now.

Russell's second in HvV, yeah
Marty giving his idol to Sash instead of playing it at Tribal
Reynold's first (NOT the "Hold up, bro")
Adam at the F5 of MvX (just for telling Hannah he had it)

Then there's expert manipulation like...
Alex in Fiji (that's probably #1 because it's so legendary)
Kristina in Redemption Island
Troy in One World
Spencer in Cagayan

This does not count the "oh, it's the final 5, last chance to play it" idol plays. There's no reason to hold onto it unless you have individual immunity and/or are very confident and want a souvenir.

Id say Malcolm in Caramoan, if only because he had the ability to keep his entire alliance safe and take out a member of the majority...and he used that opportunity to boot Phillip. Not only that, but rather than play it cool and be like were playing idols and one of you is going home to sow paranoia, they blatantly told five people hey. Split the votes between me and Eddie so we have to burn our idols, cause were just gonna take out Phillip and none of you are in real danger.

Invisio is that really a bad idol play or are you just saying it is because you don't like Malcom? If Erik didn't swap to Phillip and Malcolm didn't play the idol he would have still went home. It's like in MvGX where both Jess and Will thought the other would flip and they didn't and went to rocks because of it.

I don't like Caramoan Malcolm BECAUSE of that bad play, not the other way around. I would have no problem with the play had he/Eddie both played their idols, but at least sowed SOME dissension in the ranks. Instead they just outright told the majority alliance "hey, we're voting for Phillip and saving ourselves", giving said majority alliance ZERO reason to feel endangered (and allowing Phillip to play himself up as a martyr for the cause.) It's just like Mike at the final 8 of Worlds Apart. If you have the ability to 100% protect yourself/your allies, don't tell the dominant alliance who your target is. Make each of them fear for their own safety. You still might NEED to burn your idols, but at least you plant some seeds moving forward.

When I said Reynold I actually was referring to the "hold up bro." He totally botched that. He intended to play it for the wrong person, got unilaterally convinced to play it for a different wrong person, so in one fell swoop he wasted an idol, lost an ally, and exposed just how easily he could be manipulated. It probably would have looked better if he told Malcolm up yours and played it on himself so that way at least he got it wrong on his own accord and not someone else's.

The "Hold up, Bro" moment was Malcolm recognizing that he was a far more likely target than Reynold was. That was the point - to convince Malcolm to think he was the target, but for everyone to vote for Snowy, who clearly did not have an idol.

Malcolm's double-idol stunt the next week was awesome and saying it's "bad" is results-oriented thinking solely. The entire point was to take out the self-declared leader of Stealth-R-Us and convince two people from that alliance to flip from the remnants. It did not work, sure, but the logic is there. The alternative was Malcolm would play one idol (the one Andrea and Dawn saw him find) and let Eddie walk, then flaunt the other one at the next Tribal the way Mike Holloway eventually would. Malcolm himself acknowledged TO Mike that Mike improved the maneuver significantly - and really, it was brilliant. Mike knew he'd have to play the idol the next time he wasn't immune anyway, but it allowed him to set up the one person who'd beat him in a challenge up through that point. Shirin knew immediately that Mike was bluffing and didn't hate him for it, recognizing he'd be an idiot to play it like that. Mike knew she would.

And by saying the target was Tyler, he made Tyler specifically panic and change his vote. Mike knew Tyler wasn't living that night. He wanted Tyler to make himself target number one by angering Dan or Will, the two most likely people he'd change his vote to. It worked like a charm.

I presume you're talking about in S1 when Rohan gave his idol to Phoebe, then went home himself (not that I mind that because, c'mon, it's Phoebe), in S2 when Tarzan gave his idol to Tessa in front of A.K., who then split the vote to get her to play it and send Tarzan home instead and later in S2 when Ziggy burned her idol for what was edited to be absolutely no logical reason.

But yeah, at LEAST watch S2. S2 is good enough to be in the top 5, baby. It's like an even better MvX.

yesh, Ziggy was a bad player who had no idea what was going on. She didn't really have much reason to idol Anneliese's idol other than "hurr durr meat shields" when she was already considered one herself, being an Olympian and all. Unless - and I have no confirmation here, as this is just a theory - she figured Anneliese was targeting HER after the whole (epic) "I'M SORRY ANNELIESE" ordeal. Entirely possible it was intended as a self-preservation manoeuvre (argh I can never spell it that way, but gotta use the way they spell it in Australia here).

I know the two you're talking about as you've posted such thoughts before. After all of it has taken time to sink in...

Michelle isn't THAT bad. I mean, yeah, she gets egotistical at times, but she wasn't off-putting. She was pretty similar to a lot of arrogant jocks we've seen, even though she was anything but. Fascinating character arc, even if she was one of the less likable people. She was a spoiled brat and she knew it.

Tara can fuck off, though. I found her hypocrisy intolerable and to have to put up with her in every single episode got annoying until she started growing up down the home stretch. Even then, I still didn't like her. Such a spoiled brat and she didn't know it.

Favorites are Luke (of course), Sarah, Jericho, Tessa, Anneliese, A.K., and Henry in that order.
