Trump laughed as Duterte shut down questions. "You are the spies," Duterte said, referring to press. "Hah, hah, hah," Trump said laughing. "You are," Duterte repeated. (per WH pool) https://t.co/K4M2JsQCzw
Trump allowed Duterte to shut down US reporters' questions about human rights. Duterte told reporters they weren't at a news conference. Question wasn't answered.

This is America First - the president backing up a foreign leader disrespecting Americans in the same room.

Somehow Trump paling around with Duterte doesn't concern conservatives at all.

I wonder how they'd feel if Obama palled around with a guy who just went around shooting gun owners, and said "You're doing it right!"

Also of interest is how the most developed democracy in the middle east, and what many (myself included) have held up as a pillar of success in the region:

https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/1.822220

Sources in the Israel Police believe there is sufficient evidence to charge Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with bribery for accepting hundreds of thousands of shekels worth of gifts from wealthy businessmen, Israel Channel 10 News reported on Friday.

No indictment yet, but as someone who wasn't aware of this scandal previously, this is a very interesting development.

Moore wins, is expelled from the Senate, Strange re-appointed, special election held again, Moore wins (??), repeat (??)

When has Mitch McConnell EVER done something morally right at the cost of his own political advantage? It just wouldn't get called to vote, no one has to go on record one way or another, and Republicans maintain the current senatorial split.

Even if that was "morally right", that didn't cost him anything. The court seat rightfully went to a Democratic president. Even if Clinton won, that doesn't change anything because the seat would've gone to a liberal regardless.

Instead, he subverted the will of the people to push an activist agenda and it worked out for him, to the dismay of three million more voters.

It absolutely would be to his political advantage.

He would be down a vote for like a week until the governor appointed a temporary replacement and another special election was held which would almost certainly go to a Republican.

Oh, I meant that stirring up trouble within the party itself looks bad and weakens Republicans overall, from his perspective. Same reason he clamps down on any discussion of removing the tremendous Republican liability in the White House.

Polls have the two candidates within margin of error. Jones winning here would give the Democrats a good chance at winning the senate in 2018 (though far from guaranteed). Sure he'll be another Manchin, but having a Manchin on your side for things like the healthcare bill is important.

Some veteran intelligence officials believe a lopsided focus on offensive weapons and hacking tools has, for years, left American cyberdefense dangerously porous.

We have had a train wreck coming, said Mike McConnell, the former N.S.A. director and national intelligence director. We should have ratcheted up the defense parts significantly.

Those with influence will not learn this lesson, the NSA will continue its domestic spying, and I will continue to find it difficult to give a shit about them when things like this happen.

But he's pro choice and I worry that alone will mean we get stuck with Moore in the senate, sadly.

Jones isn't that liberal, but from the interviews I've read he seems a decent bit to the left of Manchin. I think he'd be more like the 5th-10th most moderate Dem, not 2nd.

In any case, there's a new Moore allegation. This time it's the attempted rape of a 16 year old:
