Do you think the film would have been better? It certainly would have had a dark tone and, for what it's worth, more action. The Burton Batman movies were never heavy on action, but the Joel Schumacher films had virtually none at all.

And given his history, I think Burton could have made a goofy Two-Face work. I just get the feeling he would have been a bit more Beetlejuician. It's still not how the character was meant to be portrayed, but I think he could have made something of it.

The decision to make the film brighter and more lighthearted as a bad idea. I can understand not wanting it to be as dark as Batman Returns, but they overcompensated and it took the film in the wrong direction.

Yeah.

If he'd played Robin in 1995, people today wouldn't be complaining about Human Torch or Valkyrie being played by black actors.

Does this mean Billy Dee Williams is Two Face?

I don't see him doing a goofy Two Face.

Probably better than what we got, but still a little too weird and dark like Returns was.

I get more mad at Batman Forever than Batman and Robin. At least BF had some sort of potential to be good. The cast is great (it's just the writing and direction were crap) and Joel Schumacher has made good movies, but too bad the harsh reaction against BR's dark and edginess got the corporate suits involved and the movie turned into a bad version of the 60's TV show.

You do understand the Valkyrie complaints, though, right?

I mean, not a lot of black people in Norse mythology...

Batman Forever is one of my guiltiest pleasures for movies. It is a trainwreck of a movie, but it's a fun trainwreck.

Agreed - I would really loved to have seen Val Kilmer with a better script

I don't remember the parts in Norse mythology where Thor flew by throwing a hammer or the part where he teamed up with an American mascot or a big green guy.

Granted, despite having Norse ancestry, I actually know very little about the religious views of my ancestors. But I'm guessing that working for the US government and battling aliens were not a part of that.

Technically, in this version, they're not gods. They're aliens or interdimensional beings. It's no different than when the Egyptian gods or the Greco-Roman gods have some diversity going on. Nobody complains when Hephaestus or Hermes are black.

Personally, I am a bit disappointed that we don't get to see the long blonde braid, but Tessa Thompson rocks that look.

McDonald's is just mad because Batman dropped Ronald's cousin out of a bell tower.

Norse mythology had Dkklfar and Svartlfar, which were basically dark elves which had darker skins.
It is unknown if Dkklfar is synonymous with Svartlfar or dwarfs, but at least Svartlfar had black skin.

Burton had nowhere to go with Batman after Returns. Forever is fine as it is, for what it is.
