Persona 5 followed closely by Assassin's Creed Origins. Origins would have got it if the story and side quest stories had more flesh to it. Although I've still not completed it yet so eh.

I haven't bought anything that came out in 2017, I think. At least nothing which comes to mind.

Oh, I did download Draconious Go or whatever, but that was a somewhat mediocre PoGo clone (well, knockoff, really) so I wouldn't call it a GOTY.

The Nintendo Switch as a whole.

Singular game though, it's a toss-up between Assassin's Creed Origins, Breath of the Wild, Mario, and a Hat in Time.

I think the only 2017 game I have played so far (and that's only technically, since it was only localized this year, but probably close to 10 years old in Japan) is Trails in the Sky: the 3rd. Fantastic game, but not sure it even counts.

Breath of the Wild. The only games even remotely close would be Mario Odyssey or I guess Horizon, though I haven't played Horizon.

This isn't even going to be a contest, that game will sweep. It's a contender for Game of the Decade. I can think of only one game that might top it for that title.

Probably Nier Automata. Could have been SRW V, but something just felt missing. Certainly not as hype as the PS2 days. TitS 3rd also was pushing with the reusing of assets a bit too much and while a nice game, it's no SC.

Overall a good year, but there are no life changers here. The remasters were really shining, though.

So far, as sad as it is, probably AC Origins, It's THE game that released the year I've been having so much fun with and thoroughly enjoying,

Meanwhile from what I've seen others play and read about Zelda and Mario........eh, they look OK, I just don't get the hype behind them, but that's just me, For one I don't have a switch (yet), so I haven't played them, and even if I did Fire Emblem Warriors would be my first choice of a Switch game, and I just have different tastes in the games I enjoy, so to each their own I suppose.

For me personally, overall, Persona 5. Before I even played it though, I ironically did see it coming. Platted it and played through it twice. Did you know Ryuji is a PHANTOM THIEF?! Oh, and I didn't see Kawakami coming though lol.

Before P5, I was pleasantly magikazamed by Tales of Berseria, considering how I didn't really like Zesteria (only finished it after/because of Berseria too.) Nier: Automata as well. Can't say I played anything quite like it before really lol.

Then there was Sonic Mania, bringing back a return to form, in the proper (and enjoyable) way. (The only misstep I had any serious grievance with was the final boss, imo)

I know people don't consider it a "game", more visual novel than point-and-click, but I've really been enjoying the first two episodes of Telltale's second season of Batman so far. Speaking of visual novels, Danganronpa V3 was messed up (in a good way) {yeah, the ending too, but I do admit they could have done more with it}

I finally got a Switch too, with SMO being quite fun as well, easily tied with my other favorite 3D Mario, SM64. I've also just started BOTW, so I don't have much of an opinion yet, but I do understand why people are liking it from what I've seen so far.

I didn't make it through without some disappointments though.... I didn't enjoy Yooka-Laylee enough to get past the first level. I enjoyed RE7, despite it's shortness, but it's boss battles kind of cancelled it out for me. Also, ME:A. Not much to say there.

The only new games from 2017 I've played so far are:

Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Metroid: Samus Returns
Super Mario Odyssey
Gran Turismo Sport

but so far, it's a toss up between Zelda and Mario, with Mario possibly edging out by a millimeter.

This is the first year where I can't choose. On the RPG front, it's either Persona 5 or Nier Automata. On the pure fun front, Breath of the Wild or Mario Odyssey. Plus Xenoblade 2 is coming out in a few weeks, and that might be a contender as well.

I'm not sure three 2017 games is really enough to qualify my opinion, but it's more current-year games than I usually play in a given year.

I think Nintendo absolutely killed it this year. Zelda, Mario, Mario+Rabbids, and Xenoblade 2 is probably the craziest year of gaming I've had in the past decade and a half. Loving 2017 for games, to be honest.

Man, I don't know. I haven't played Mario Odyssey yet, so maybe that's as amazing as people say it is, but beyond that this has been a really really horrible year for games.

They all sucked.

In this topic, I suddenly realize that the only game from 2017 that I've played is South Park: Phone Destroyer. I've just been too busy and so my game time has been spent on games I already own.

Nier: Automata.

Legend of Zelda: Uncontrollable Sneeze.

Point is it came out this year for most of the world. I didn't actually know it came out in Japan last year. Then again I never bothered looking.

Edit: Case in point I believe Persona 5 wasn't even in the running for GotY from publications/video game media sites despite coming out in Japan in September of 2016. Therefore it doesn't count. It'll be in the running this year.
