Been deliberating for a while, and asked multiple people here for input, but decided to get a Note 8 this weekend. Spent yesterday configuring it and removing bloatware, and now it's working perfectly as I want it to.

Early impressions are that this is a solid phone. It's got slightly bizarre shape that will take a bit to get used to, but it's narrower than most other phones with smaller screens, making it easier to hold and fit in my pocket. In terms of speed, it's blazing fast. I installed Nova Launcher and removed the animations for apps, so everything pops up instantly. The phone has 6GB of RAM, so it does a good job of keeping more apps open in the background without needing a reload, which speeds up the phone quite a bit.

I had been debating between this and the Pixel 2 XL, but ended up choosing the Note due to all the hardware benefits it has over the Pixel -- headphone jack, SD card, wireless charging. And this is aside from the annoying blue-tint and burn-in issues reported with the 2 XL screens.

I would get a Note 8 if I didn't already upgrade my S6 to an S8+ in April.

Most people agree it's the best Android phone. The point of contention is the price.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous that phones are at this price point. But given they're starting to have specs equivalent to laptops, I'm not really surprised.

I'm in love with the square shape of the phone.

As much as I'm enjoying my iPhone X, I'm so bored of curved edges.

It seems a bit more professional and business-like, though it is less ergonomic than the 8+.

I'm still getting used to it. This is the first phone I've ever seen with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, and some apps are definitely not optimized to use the extra screen space effectively.

Still, it is easy to hold, and I actually am able to text one-handed, which I wasn't on my last phone.

Honestly, I wouldn't have gotten a Note 8 after my experience with the Note 7 recall(s), but Samsung's insane 50% off deal for former Note 7 owners was just too good to pass up. For what it's worth, I am a heavy s pen user.

Why wouldn't you have gotten it?

So far, my experience has been excellent. The only thing pushing me towards the Pixel 2XL was the smoother software, but this phone has been absurdly fast after installing Nova Launcher. The only downside so far has been how "slippery" the phone feels to hold. I don't use a case and constantly afraid it's going to fall out of my hand. This phones slides around quite easily due to its shape.
