By purpose and by accident are semantically the same, and the words by purpose can be used just fine in a sentence.

The only reason you're saying it's wrong is because you don't hear it often. But you not hearing it often doesn't make it wrong.

i remember learning spanish in high school and thought that it was way more straight-forward than the crazy crap we have with english grammar.
