it's a drag n drop game development tool like RPG Maker but it's geared towards visual novels
check it out on Steam
it comes out in a few days with a lot of ready to use assets
I'll probably buy it on a sale and mess around with it occasionally....... same thing I do wit RPG Maker

When I think about the sheer amount of text in some VNs, I just lose all motivation to make one.

Maybe. I can and was making a VN in RPG Maker actually. So it depends how easy this makes it compared to what I had in place.

Nah I'm not really creative.

I consider myself a good writer so I could probably be a pretty solid translator for example but I suck at coming up with my own stories.

Pretty much this.

It just occured to me when I was scrolling this topic that my fiancee has quite a few books/stories she's been working on, so maybe we could collaborate on turning them into VNs.

except I guess that wouldn't really make sense

so instead it makes games like Fate Stay huh

well

I was thinking how a comic maker would even work and decided that other than text bubbles, it wouldn't work very well

comics are about your own art, you can't really have it just being templated

I'm definitely interested, as a couple of projects I made on various rpg makers would work a lot better on this.

Of course I have some deal breaker questions, such as if it can generate random numbers as variables and has conditional branches based on variables.

I can't believe I have to ask those things, but a couple Rpg makers burned me on that front. What the crap, says I.

Which RPG Makers didn't have that? I thought they all did.

RPG Maker 3 back on the PlayStation 2, and the one that recently came out for the 3ds. To be fair, you could work around the lack of conditional variables in the 3ds one, but only if you do seperate event pages. Which sucks.

Obviously, the best decision is to stick to the PC versions (obviously), but I fell in love with the series with rpgm 2 on the ps2, so I have some nostalgia there and frankly, a lot of what I enjoy about the series is finding the limits and developing workarounds.

There just isn't any way I could deal with this particular piece of software without those two aspects. I'll keep my ear to the ground over the next couple days, see if any videos or anything start going up. But this is a pretty obscure title.

i'm gonna look into it

really wish this software had a trial version

or that it was cheaper. $30 would be a fair price

I kinda thought this topic was dead so I wasn't going to update, but since it's still going...

I did a bit more research last night. Info is scarce, but I found some good sources of information through the developers Twitter account, and some German guy did a hands on stream via twitch.

It seems as though my concerns are alleviated. The biggest complaint I've seen so far from steam reviews is that there is a surprising lack of characters included, 12 in total I think. You can import your own stuff, but that's not something some people are willing to do. People are already getting to work on extensions also, and the developer has started a relationship with the producers of the rpg maker series, so I think this title has a lot of potential.

nice. great news if that the biggest complaint. i've always planned to use my own art (commissioned since I can't draw) so the lack of characters out of the box isn't a big deal to me. however, for people that don't want to do that, maybe the developers can release new characters regularly as cheap DLC
