Actually. I like any Mario game I've ever played. I just dislike Mario 64 that much.

You must have missed out on the paper Mario games and the awesome Mario tie ins like Mario Kart and Mario power tennis if you think Mario 64 is bad but Sonic's 3D offerings were a much more damning taint on a franchise

I'm also a Mario 64 hater buuuut Sonic has done worse titles and Mario has done really really really great tie ins Sonic can't compete with

Well I don't agree with this at all. Sonic 1 is decent, but some of the stages are just garbage, and they go on for three acts. The lack of a spin dash also sucks. Sonic 2 is pretty good up until the super unfair final boss, which sucks with the finite continues. Sonic 3 is very good, and add in Knuckles there, but only as the combined game. Sonic and Knuckles seems kind of pointless to play on its own with the lack of Tails and saving.

I think the first two Sonic games feel a little pointless to replay once you've played 3 and beyond. The additions of the different shields, first act boss fights, better bonus stages and music for each act make them a lot more enjoyable in my opinion. All the "classic" Sonic games are a pretty additive experience, though not much was added after 3. I think older Mario games are more fun to go back to, even if they are simpler than later ones, just because each game has its own feel to it.

Eh, I don't think it's fair to include these in the competition, but it doesn't matter since Mario easily stands taller on platforming games alone

i hated the transition from 2D platformers to 3D in general, and other titles did the 3D platforming way better. It didn't hold my interest. Like I'd never pick it up again. Novel at the time but that's about it (for me)

Just curious, but what titles do you have in mind?

I didn't really love Mario 64 even when it came out. Now I have a greater appreciation for it and I'll still go back to it, but it can be frustrating. In a weird way it's almost fun because of how sloppy it is. However, I think the fun is maximized watching somebody else play it (in person) and laughing every time they fail because of the broken-ass controls/camera

Only sonic game I liked was racing transformed on wii u. I played all the older ones and lots of newer ones and all are meh. Never beat a sonic game and probs never will. Beat almost all mario games though.
