Saber is just the class. In this game setting the character who belongs to the Saber unit is just considered the strongest of the other characters summoned for the game. But also Saber is one of the main character.

The servants are real heroes who are summoned to fight in the game. Knowing who they are means you can figure out what their weapon and special is which makes it easier to fight them.

UWB was pretty good. Fate/Stay Night was just poorly done adaptation of the VN route. There's also Fate/Zero which is a prequel to the Fate/Stay Night.

Generally the best method agreed upon for watching Fate/Stay Night is to read the VN for the first route then watch UWB. Or just skip it.

There's arguments about if you should watch Fate/Zero before UWB or the upcoming movie Heaven's Feel. As they spoil each other.

The human characters are all pretty terrible in it. Shiro was an insufferable annoyance in Night and his attitude towards Saber really got under my skin. The best part of it was one of the last episodes when Archer talks about what he wants to do to Saber. I laughed pretty hard at that

Making King Arthur a girl is why I never gave that show a chance. Like, that's just too weird. I can't say I'm a super fan of the Arthurian legend, but I've seen a couple interpretations over the years and I don't care to have his bearded highness replaced with a big boobied blonde just because Japan wants to fuck literally everything.

I originally watched UBW, but then went back to rewatch it but didn't realize there was a regular Fate/Stay Night so after a while I was vaguely confused and ultimately disappointed. UBW is overwhelmingly superior.

Zero was okay but I remember being bored to death by it for some reason or another, but I intend to give it a fair shake around the time I get to Apocrypha.

Zero was heavy on plot exposition and world building at the expense of action from what I remember. There were parts that definitely dragged

Ah, I see. I can value such things - I usually prefer slower animes, less action and such - but what really got me into Fate/ were the awesome fights and all that.

Especially Archer vs Shirou and Gilgamesh vs. Shirou.

Zero is good in the sense that you're supposed to know the ending so everyone's story has this really sad sense to it and any sense of hope is dashed before they can even start to fight for the Grail.

Outside of that, UBW is definitely the superior show. I preferred not knowing what was going to happen and the twists were great. UBW had the better fights but Zero had my favorite character in Rider.

Yeah, that's a different story line from the original anime. The anime was based off of a VN that had 3 different paths. They upped the production value and adapted a different path than the original Stay Night anime. Apparently, UBW is also closer to the source material as well.

Fate Zero was the best story wise. Alexander the Great is easily one of the best anime characters of all time.

Unlimited Blade works was really derivative but the animation is basically the best shit I've ever seen in a series.

Season 2 has been way better than one. It's not that I hate the humans, they're just the least interesting part of the story and the first half of season one spent way too much time on them in the high school. It's been non-stop action for the past few episodes and has been really good.

And as I said in the OP, I already really enjoy Apocrypha (at least what's available on Netflix).
