Every morning I wake up to go to work and just think "Fuck, I can't do this today..." and I wind up going anyway. But it's killing me mentally and physically. The only reason I've stayed this long is because I need the money. I have no other jobs lined up and I have bills. But fuck I wish I could leave so bad. But if I quit I can't get on unemployment to tide me over until I find another job.

I literally want to break down and cry right now. Only six hours until I have to go to that place again. I think the hardest part for me has been admitting to myself that I can't get it done and I'm not good at my job.

Anybody else in the same boat?

I'll never forget the last day at a terrible job. I was driving to work, and I thought to myself "Nope". I drove right passed work and straight the liquor store. I felt so fantastic, and even got a new job a month later that I love. Sometimes you just gotta do it.

This is why I live cheap while I'm working, so when I get sick of it, I can afford to take a couple months off before getting a new job.

It's so hard to do though, because if you quit you're automatically disqualified from receiving unemployment benefits, and when you have bills to pay and family to take care of you can't really rely on something coming along a month or two later. So your only options are suck it up and go while looking for another job(which I've been doing for months now) as your mental and physical state continues to deteriorate, or quit and lose that job and your boss as a reference and just hope for a miracle, which never seems to work out for me.

Fuck, man.

I'm sorry to hear that, man. I've been through that before. Was unemployed 9 months before I found my current job. I hope things come around for you.

I work full time in a grocery store as Assistant Manager in one of the fresh departments. I make $14 an hour. $14 an hour to go through all this. Sad thing is, I know I wouldn't be able to make more money somewhere else.

The place I work had a monthly commission structure but they made it weekly. Made the company $178k in a week. Didnt get paid on it. Almost quit today and coast along until my next job starts in January but eh.

I love my job, but I've contemplated quitting recently as I'm not getting as many hours as I want. Thing is, that's not the boss' fault either, as he gives me minimal hours until we get the call.

The thing about work is you really got to pace yourself, take your breaks, and deflect any negative energy that comes your way by ignoring it or not letting it get to you. It can be exhausting after a while, but it all depends on how you handle it. The best cure is to take a vacation. You'll come back refreshed for a while.

Sounds like a good excuse to do just enough work to not get fired, then if you actually do get fired it's no biggie

It's very hard to get unemployment after getting fired. You can pretty much only get it if you get laid off. Plus I would feel like a piece of trash for not at least trying my hardest at work.

Oh I didn't know that about getting unemployment, that's really dumb. And yeah I feel you about feeling bad about not trying hard lol. I guess you just have to start looking to move on.

Have you ever worked retail? I've never been a manager but it's already bad enough as a regular associate. I can only imagine what assistants and co-managers have to go through.

I work at Walmart and there are definitely times where I just want to let my points accumulate and quit/get fired. I got promoted to full-time back in August so that's kept me going a bit, since I'm getting a lot more money now. I make $10.25/hr on 40 hours a week, which is honestly pretty good for where I live. But the morale at Walmart is just so damn bad.

I used to work at Walmart, aswell.

I was maintenence. And it's not fixing machinery like the name implies, lol. It's a janitorial position. Every morning i woke up, i knew i had to clean nasty toilets, puke, and other human waste. There were times where i literally sat outside in my truck until my shift was over- Other times where i didn't even show up at work. I was amazed i wasn't fired. I would much rather be assistant manager than clean poop off the floor.

Yup definitely. Unfortunately I'm working around retail and the holidays are the worst. Really not looking forward towards working this weekend, last weekend was bad enough. I had so many bad customers.

What makes it so bad is our department,(really the whole store) is understaffed, equipment doesn't work, and corporate isn't prepared for the holiday season. Most of the people that do work there are lazy and will not offer help if you need it.

This is pretty much what's happening at my store. All the work is falling on me and my boss comes down on my whenever I make the slightest mistake and questions everything I do. Or worse doesn't say anything at all and just treats me with indifference.

It's not the customers I have issues with usually, it's the management. They're mostly terrible.
