Nah, a bunch of super successful people seem to have a form of mania though. I wouldn't call it a disorder if they enjoy it

I say disorder because a normal brain maybe is not supposed to work that way. Regardless of if it works as an avantage or not.

Maybe all the normal brains have the disorder then, since they might be worse

Everybody has a mental disorder to some degree whether diagnosed or not because real life events determine that mental state of a person

Maybe super successful people like actors and artist. You have to be crazy to think you can make it big in the first place. It's an unrealistic goal.

I don't know if this is a joke topic or not. But in the chance you're being serious, what super successful people have over others are:

Intrinsic Motivation - Standard shonen cliche where you say you'll put your mind to something, you'll do it
An Autotelic hobby - A passion, something you enjoy doing for the sake of it
Hunger for Knowledge - You constantly want to learn and whatever field you commit you life to, you learn it so well that you're a master of that field
Sense of Purpose - You found your meaning to your life, and why you are going out to accomplish what you set out to do

I'm reading a book on this right now, called Creativity, where they focus exactly on what your topic is asking. It's a very insightful book, I highly recommend it.

I mean, the current definition of mental disorder is that it must be disruptive and detrimental to everyday life.

People high on various traits are abnormal, not necessarily constituting a mental disorder though.

I mean, for clinical reasons it's obvious why it's there.

It's probably scientifically more important to think about things in terms of abnormality. Though, you run into issues where people are sensitive to that word. I mean, homosexuality is an abnormality. Transgenderism is an abmormality. But people get upset about that, so people just don't discuss it with the public.

right

there are valid reasons to use it in practice, but with regards to defining conditions it seems kind of misleading to me to make them contingent on every day functioning.

for me it is specifically because there are a lot of reasons to think that two people with the same 'abnormality' but different life circumstances will have their everyday lives affected by it differently, which means that if you face structural barriers you are more likely to have a 'disorder' than if you don't

which seems kind of stupid to me

In that scenario, one would be a disorder and the other would be just an abnormality.

A having a mental disorder is strictly related to the quality of life on a person- if whatever is causing a negative effect on the person's life, it is a disorder.

Its the same as being sick, two people can be afflicted with the same illness. If one person is reacting negatively to the illness, they are considered sick while the person who is feeling fine but still carries the illness with no negative effects is considered healthy.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy

(I only know this since he pronounces his name in the book)

Also, I forgot, super successful people tend to have home environments where the parents are supportive and help foster their interests. Or there's a hole in their family life where they take on the responsibilities to fill that hole.

And luck. You gotta have 'dat luck.

Depends on your term of successful. People that are grossly wealthy like CEO/CFOs of major companies show strong signs of psychopathy. So yes, a lot of the world's most successful and powerful people have mental disorders
