From an FPS perspective it's kinda generic, but it's got a healthy combination of ground and spaceship combat and the writing is actually more sensible than what we got in Episode 7.

I hear it's short though, I keep expecting it to end after every mission >_>.

Most modern FPS games have short campaigns.
In some respects it's better than Battlefield 3's campaigns, especially when it comes to starship missions, since you're actually controlling the ships and dogfighting and attacking the objective instead of pressing random keys arbitrarily that you'll never use again in the game.

Lol that was pretty annoying. There was actually a visual glitch in that mission... you'd use your force abilities to wipe out a group of them and they would just disappear... no blood, guts, nothing.

You're with it long enough to establish your character and the collapse of the Empire.

I think it's actually pretty well done. I am not at the end yet so I don't know if they go into the creation of the First Order or not. But as someone who didn't understand a lot of the politics/writing in TFA to begin with, it helps build a bridge between Episodes 6 and 7 that help demonstrate the decline of the Empire.

Writing was literally better than what was in TFA.
And ... yeah, I would have liked more Iden, too, but the character variety doesn't necessarily flat out ruin it.
You could argue that the hero levels were there to get you acquainted with the different abilities, too.
