I REALLY want an official AAI2 localization though because I think the one we have leaves a lot to be desired

Don't get me wrong, it's definitely worth playing and the effort is commendable but it's just not quite up to Capcom's standard

Wish I could get that running on Mobile. Trying to play on PC was a joke, and I'm not interested in modding my 3DS.

Yeah, at the very least it'd be very close to that since his last name is literally the romanization of the word "Knight," so it'd probably just be Knight. Rooke's name would be very close to the same, too, I'd guess.

But yeah, Sebastian Debeste is amazing. It almost makes up for the rest of the name gaffes.

I watched that first before I ever played the fan translation they use in the patch, and it's really good. He doesn't use the same names as the fan translation though. I guess I've already had the experience of having to get used to a new set of names with AAI2, so what's one more time...!

I feel bad that I never watched dowolf's translation because I really admire his effort and agree with a lot of his philosophy on localization but I just preferred to be able to play the game ultimately

Well, I watched it because I figured we were still a long way away from ever getting to play the thing and just wanted to know how the story went. I forget how far ahead of the translation being finished I watched it, but it was about a year, I guess.

Oh right, I guess I need to watch the latest DGS2 video. That thing's been moving at a snail's pace.

I watched through the dowolf translation twice, once alone and once with a friend. Didn't play the fan translation ever. It was a little off not actually playing the game, but I think the much better translation paid off.

I really wouldn't have much faith if they actually translated AAI2 for a mobile release, if only because I couldn't see any outcome where it isn't a shoddy rush job.

As in, Horace Knightley just becomes Horse Knight bad.

That actually feels like the least possible outcome and it's probably part of the reason why they haven't localized the game. They don't want it to be shoddy. They'd want to invest the time and money in keeping with the series' standards, and it wouldn't be profitable for them to do so.

Yep, although I wish my dream scenario "just buy out the script from the people who already translated it and then just have one person do punch-up" was a real possibility

as someone who's been zipping through the games -- the AAI2 translation is at least better than the AA2 one. so many typos and laziness

DD's the one that feels like it has the most obvious typos in it to me (although JFA's rendering of "altar" as "alter" gets me every time). The localizations aren't perfect, but it's forgivable because there's so much dialogue so stuff slipping through is inevitable.

Although it's still light years ahead of something like Danganronpa where listing the wrong character speaking is a fairly common occurrence and that drives me insane

It's hard to me to have too much faith in Capcom considering I've witnessed the horror of the Ace Attorney Trilogy on iOS.

I wish it's something I could talk about more at length with like, actual Japanese-language knowledge behind it, but I think the AAI2 patch is lacking. There are a lot of lines that just clearly translated too literally or weren't punched up enough, and there's a lot of jokes that fall kind of flat as a result because they're just not funny enough the way they wrote them. There's a lot of "Kay, don't make such comments" type retorts that are too dry (even for Edgeworth) and are clearly in that "technically correct but not quite naturally phrased" region.

The fan translation's biggest problem is the comedy, yeah. I can't fault them for trying since I wouldn't be able to strike comedy gold myself, but they're just not as good at funny writing as the actual localization team.

I will say that overall they did a good job translating like, the procedural stuff - like, I can't recall any time where I thought the translation botched some aspect of the murder, or made a contradiction more confusing than it should have been. There might have been like, one time, but I don't even remember. (There were also some that were confusing but I don't think were translation-related)

I still think it's funnier than AA2! that game might be the least funny game in the series, both intentionally and unintentionally (sup 2-3)

also accusing the weapon of being under the Judge's bench and the Judge thinking Phoenix wants to kill him are two of the best comedy setpieces in the series so JFA beats out AAI2 on those two things alone

2-3 is hilarious, but it's mostly because Phoenix and Maya are an absolute GOAT of an investigation team throughout the whole thing, it's really easy to underappreciate but that case has incredibly good writing

I thought Moe's first "testimony" was actually pretty funny when you realize you aren't going to cross-examine it.

Moe's cry for help on the stand is amazing, as is the tell awful joke -> cut to dead silence in the courtroom, as is West Clownadelphia. Ben's whole concept just cracks me up, too. Humour's different for different folks, but I dunno, I thought that case was hilarious.

JFA as a whole is certainly more humourous than AJ (several comic characters, like Stickler and Brushel, fall absolutely flat, though the core Apollo/Trucy/Ema/Klavier cast has good humour at least) or AAI2.

Moe is really good on day 2, but it has nothing to do with his comedy. His sense of humor is always terrible. Perhaps the worst thing I could possibly say about Maya is that she thinks Moe is funny, even if she's only pretending to in order to troll Phoenix.

I'm pretty sure any time I play Apollo Justice, I immediately forget about Stickler's presence as soon as that court day is done. By the time I'm putting away Atila with the panties, I've completely forgotten that Stickler had anything to do with them.

As bad as Moe's press penalizing testimony was to my first time play-through, it's pretty straightfoward because the lines you have to press him on are rather obvious. Trilo, on the other hand, is defeated by pointing out white roses he would have never seen on a silhouette, and that's where my Case 3 Trial 1 anger comes from.

I got Dual Destinies on android since it's on sale and I never got around to getting a 3DS. The 3D models are really good and expressive, they nailed all the classic Phoenix and Apollo mannerisms. I'm really liking Athena so far, it's nice to have an actual lawyer as a sidekick for a change. The only bummer so far is the lack of microphone support, who knew shouting at a video game would someday make me feel like a dork
