Damn. It's been a long time since I've gotten that sucked into a game.

Great challenge, great controls, great controls. Good music. Good replay value. Just enough humor sprinkled in. Pretty charming aesthetic throughout.

I like how the New Game + just continues to scale up. I was around NG+4 when I finished up all the optional/remix bosses and mocked the traitor.

At that point I figured I'd be able to take on the trophy of beating the game dying 15 times or less, and man did that ever feel like a walk in the park. After playing on NG+ for so long, I was able to clear out the entire castle and forest in one or two runs on a fresh file. When you focus all your gold on +HP and +Damage, you're killing everything in the castle and forest in 2 hits max by your 3rd run. I eventually made it to the final boss on about my 8th run or so, and decided to completely forego clearing the castle for gold and just take shots on the final boss. I was already familiar enough with his moves by then. Got him on like my 11th or 12th heir.

That just left the damn carnival game! Ugh! I lost by one target so many times. What stinks is you can't use the architect to get another shot at a carnival game. The dude will say you lost already. So you have to keep resetting until you find the carnival again just to get another attempt. But I finally got it.

Feels good man. All in all I put 55 hours into it. I'm honestly tempted to look into speedeunning it, because despite doing literally everything, I still feel like I've got unfinished business with the game.

Those carnival games suck.

I'm not one for getting platinum on games because there's always some really horrible trophies, but I can see how Rogue Legacy is a game I might have been willing to stick with longer until I did. Instead, I beat the game on regular and kinda stopped after that.

Yeah dude. When I was grinding for the carnival, I'd just pick whatever class was the best at getting around quickly, and then make a mad dash through the castle until I found it. If I cleared the castle and didn't find it, I'd just kill myself. I think I died about 40 times when I was just specifically farming for the carnival trophy.

It's my only platinum. I don't do that stuff either, largely because most games I've played force me to do stuff I don't care about. But Rogue Legacy seriously feels like it was designed just for me. It's exactly my taste.

I got that platinum last month!

great game

Axe carnival is fairly easy, and Dagger carnival gives you 12 daggers instead of the 10 he says;
can't believe that was your last trophy instead of the dying 15 times or less. >_>

No kidding. I was at about 150 children when I reached the point of having everything except the carnival game. Plus 12 or so on the other file. I probably hit 7/8 targets or left 11-12 targets in the axe toss upwards of 10 times. It was pretty aggravating. It was the dagger throw I finally ended up winning on the last chance.

Beating the game with 15 deaths or less was easy peasy after beating NG+ 4 or whatever it was.

i might have been bad but i feel like the middle of that game is a slog to get upgrades with

you kind of have nothing to get as you are forced to 'git gud'

I was definitely pretty bad at the game when I first played it last summer. I did probably a couple dozen runs and never killed the first boss or made it into the forest beyond a few rooms. After over a year not playing the game, I picked it up again and killed the first boss within a few runs.

I know the slog you're talking about. I enjoyed grinding it out and learning different classes, though.

Once I decided to try out using the architect to "practice" the bosses, I ended up beating the game within like 5-6 runs. I remember looking back and thinking I could have beaten the game in way less time if I'd just made a point to lock the castle instead of setting out to get max gold every run.

I think the most challenging part is the remix bosses. Forest > Maya > Castle > Final > Darkness in terms of difficulty for those. At least, that's the order for me in terms of most to least deaths against.

Although, by the time I was fighting the final remix boss I was significantly better at the game, so that could skew it.

So what do you recommend you spend your gold on for that die 15 times or less trophy? As far as skill tree, weapons, runes, etc

Skill tree: all you need is +HP and +Atk. Everything else is pointless except to unlock Shinobi and maybe upgrade the Barbarian.

Equipment: whatever gives you the most attack and health. Don't spend gold on upgrades to magic or mana, imo.

Runes: 2 air jumps and 1 dash is all you need. I wouldn't spend a penny more on it.

That said, obviously spend gold on something like an equipment upgrade or rune if everything else that's useful is too expensive.

I will add that you should always dip into the land of darkness to see if there is a chest that is easily accessible. If you find one and it's a blueprint which is a significant upgrade to damage or health, it might be worth it.

I've been doing some speedrun practice. I can get the first three bosses in about 30 minutes with relative ease, but it looks like Herodotus is going to be a choke point where I'll have to practice a ton. That fight is really tough when you're a weakling. The others you can just win without stats by having good movement.

Stumbled across a weird bug. I think it has something to do with a teleporter room being directly below a certain room? That's my best guess.

It causes any attempt to teleport to that room to place you in the room above it (and land on spikes). Also, it's impossible to enter the teleporter room from the room below it.
