I knew that G.O.R.F., also released in 1981, preceded Donkey Kong with its boss fight against a mothership. But I still thought that Donkey Kong was the first individual character, as opposed to an aircraft, to be presented as a boss fight.
I was wrong though. Wizard of Wor came out a year earlier and featured both the eponymous wizard and a giant bug called a Worluk as boss fights. Once could also make the case for Berzerk's Evil Otto, but I don't know if he should count as a boss seeing as there's no way to really "defeat" him. ![]() ... Copied to Clipboard!

Very interesting. Thanks.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dnd_(video_game) It's a pity they didn't have a picture of the boss. Or maybe the boss fight was solely text based and that picture of the knight was from an upgraded version of the game. ... Copied to Clipboard!

If the dragon did only appear in text, then I really think they need to apply an asterisk to it and give a mention to the first boss to visually appear in a video game.
