No it's definitely a good thing that the dating since elements have never made it into a Zelda game. Would kill a lot of Western interest imo. Especially in the 90's

Given the limitations of the N64, I don't think they could've carried the dating sim idea very far anyway. I don't think they could've given each character her own specific ending.

At best, they could've framed the ending to have all of the characters sitting around a campfire and, if you brought the girl of your choosing a gift, that ending would have been slightly modified to have said girl seated next to Link. That's about it. And even then, the news media in America would've torn the game apart over "promoting pedophilia and bestiality."

"You play as an adult male who brings a girl, who looks to be about twelve, a heart-shaped pendent. Later, the two are seated next to each other at a fireside with the implication that they've now become a couple."
