Gywn (dat music)
Sif (mostly for lore)
O&S
4 Kings (I hear most people don't like this one but it's probably my favorite)
Lady Maria
Nameless King
Midir
Champion Gundyr
Abyss Watchers (easy but really fun / cool design)
Artorias

And you could easily argue for like another half dozen of them belong on the top

I really like Dragonslayer Armor. From a story or lore point theres nothing special about it.

But the fight itself is just plain fun. Especially with like 3 people running around.

Ludwig is pretty great, considering the music for the second phase, and if you're aware of what the Moonlight Sword really is.

Because it's basically From Software's mascot. It's been in many, many of their games. It originates in their first game series, King's Field. Demon's Souls, which kicked off all these Souls games, was meant to be a spiritual successor to King's Field.

This suggests that the dialogue he has in the cutscene for phase transition is a bit meta since he's referring to the sword as his "mentor" so it's weirdly like the Souls series talking to their original series, King's Field.

Plus it's just a cool sword, and it's a sword I've thought was cool since around 1995/1996 so, pretty extra cool to me, that fight.

Oh yeah and as an added fun fact that is also a bit weird: DS3 actually implies Dark Souls is in the same universe as King's Field, in a very, very distant future.

This is because of Old Moonlight, a spell you make from Midir. The fact you can get this from Midir's soul is also an obscure nod to King's Field.

While it's common for the Moonlight Sword to make some sort of cameo in games, of course the Dark Souls series already has that covered, with the Moonlight Greatsword. So what purpose does this spell serve?

It, like Lifehunt Scythe, is an illusory projection from a memory, held temporarily. The model of this illusory sword, is pretty much taken straight out of King's Field 2. It's a visage of the true original sword, which the Moonlight Greatsword actually doesn't that closely resemble.

The item description for it talks about its time being in the Beginning, and Beginning is capitalised. Which seems to be referring to an actual location in the King's Field series called that. It would have to date back very far as well since Midir is a direction immediate descendant of the original everlasting dragons of the Souls series, and yet even for it, the sword is just a fading memory, not something that can be materialised from its soul.

Even if it wasn't meant to imply both games are in the same universe, what it unavoidably is saying, is that the Moonlight Greatsword in the Souls games, is not actually the real Moonlight Sword, which is both true outside of the series since that's not quite how the real sword is, but also in-lore apparently this is true too. It's actually likely that Seath tried to recreate it either from memory or simply legend. Whatever the case, somewhere in the history of Dark Souls' universe, perhaps beyond even the ancient dragons there is a true Moonlight Sword that never physically appears in the games.

So that's neat.
