I got tired of waiting around for stuff after finishing .hack//Last Recode (go play it if you haven't). I'm still on Thanksgiving holiday, so I thought I'd replay one of my all-time favorite games, Breath of Fire III. I haven't done so in some time, and I'm already some way through the game (Basically the first 20% or so). I wanted to attempt something unique: a single master run. That single master being some fish thing that gives tons of HP/AP, but wrecks every other stat. No other masters, just me being dumb across the board. The game isn't that hard...I don't think anyway. I was just curious.

But I'm also here because this game isn't about the story, the characters, or the world. It's the goddamn fishing minigame! It is so simple, but it is so fun. When fishing minigames are easy and simple, they are a pleasure. It also helps this game has so many uses for every fish...except jellyfish. Fuck those things.

Anyway, feel free to follow along. No need for spoilers, unless no one else has played a 20 year old game. God knows I know what happens.

Sheesh Nina. Poke your nose in some doofus's business, and we have to train his dumb ass. Thanks a bunch. I'm gonna be here a while.

Good. That storyline is over. I don't like how the game forced me to talk to the dad, then the daughter, then the dad again, then the doofus, then the whole weird thing resolves in, "Whatever, you fucks go do the thing, cause you're strong."

Well gee. All that training did a hell of a lot of good. Maybe I should go train then. *Levels up twice before bed*

You saw nothing.

Lighthouse beaten. This area is tough, regardless of party and master setup. It's those damn Ghosts using Sleep+Jolt. Imagine three of those jerks, or one with 3-4 bats. Even the boss was not difficult in comparison. Nor was the second boss a little later. I ended up getting a skill I didn't want (Intimidate) instead of the one I was banking on (Tsunami). This game has a habit of making some skills really hard to get. It doesn't help I have no real idea what kind of skill builds I want my characters to have. Ah well, Intimidate might work in cancelling some annoying enemies' turns.

Also, hooray for Midas Stone. Money is no problem. Agility is, but Ryu's got a Claymore. He's like Link with Iron Boots on: slow, plodding, and immovable.
