Despite stellar reviews from game reviewers, it appears XBOX One gamers are not so excited about the racing game anymore as FM7 sold 176,000 copies last month...that's the lowest of the series as it marks a downward trend of the franchise.

Haven't played horizon 2 or 3 yet, but the first one was a real breath of fresh air in that series. It was one of the few racing games in the last 10 years that really captured me.

A Forza game every year is too much. Microsoft really needs to diversify their first party output. Shit has been dire this year.

You're still jumping the gun with sales figures. The US sales for November haven't been released yet. So presumably you're only talking about the UK.

After each race you get X amount of credits, which can be used to buy cars or these loot boxes, which can contain cars, or mods (bonuses that allow you to get more credits from each race). These mods all have limited uses, and the amount of credits earned from each career race can be kind of low, so...

FM7 had that, but (more importantly IMO) it didn't add much to FM6 while really reducing the popular rivals mode.

Gears 4 lootboxes were so bad. Sounds like Forza 7 continues that trend.

I hope this isn't the new thing from Microsoft games now. Loot boxes and racing games don't mix well at all.

For what it's worth, the loot boxes are mostly there just so you can make more money during races, but I already get plenty enough cash with the VIP bonus, so I haven't opened a crate in weeks.

This is the bigger thing. Racing games just don't sell to casuals as much anymore. Honestly, for many, just driving around in a game like GTA V is enough to scratch that itch rather than buying a stand alone game.

This is the bigger thing. Racing games just don't sell to casuals as much anymore. Honestly, for many, just driving around in a game like GTA V is enough to scratch that itch rather than buying a stand alone game.

It's kinda a natural progression - racing games, like fighting games have a short shelf life as a whole.

The racing game hype has lasted longer than I expected this time around, but once the market gets saturated with garbage it doesn't take long to become a stale experience.

I used to buy Forza religiously but with all the steering wheels and cockpit upgrades and shit you can buy now at insane prices, it kinda turned me off. And the last Forza I bought turn 10 managed to just destroy auction house, which REALLY turned me off to playing it just on principal alone.

The Horizon games are open world. Regular Forza is more traditional.

tbh i find the forza games kind of dull. i like cars but there's only so much you can do with a racing sim and i feel like they're never very fun online. it's usually a bunch of dudes just crashing into each other in the start, disconnecting, and then 3 regular people race

All of the major Xbox franchises seem to be going down this generation. Gears, Halo and now it's hitting Forza. There's just too much of the same thing. Forza Horizon 3 seemed like a bit of fresh air with the new setting and next gen open world but that's not something that's sustainable every year.
