I generally play games the year after they release, but this year Nier is my GOTY and listening to these deliberations has taken on an entirely different dynamic now that I have a horse in the race, and something that some members of the group feel equally strong about.

This'll also be the first time Brad's interests line up with mine so that should be fun.

They do spoil some smaller story points in Best Music so if you want to go in blind I'd steer clear, but they don't outright spoil the ending. They also do say stuff like "this music happens at this exact point of the game" which might be meaningful.

As someone who has played the game I'd definitely say it's something to skip past if you don't want to know anything. They wait until the very end of the category to go in-depth on it, so you could watch until that point and then stop there as it's essentially Nier until the very end.

i think dan will abandon pubg for zelda when it gets down to crowning goty. him and abby will be on the same side to support it against nier. he won't get help from her if he goes with pubg! and brad i think will sooner go for zelda than pubg when put up against nier.

also i know for sure now that i am way wrong about my prediction for zelda's placement in brad's list. sounds like it's top 3 instead of being at 6! his top 3 might just be the exact same as the site's top 3, too, further cementing his role as (brad) kingmaker in the goty deliberations.

Listen, I like Abby, but after all the passionate arguments yesterday in other categories, her whiney childish dismissal of Persona send Nier in music are a real bad look. Not liking them is one thing, but that was something else altogether. Looks especially bad on video.

I think her Persona comments were valid, as someone who adores that soundtrack. What Jeff said about needing the attachment for the vocals to work is true. The funny thing is 5 is the least bad and mist coherent the vocals have ever been.

Nier though, yikes.

With that said, everybody's said dumb stuff about music. Remember when they just dismissed Tropical Freeze after 30 seconds, or Jeff calling Undertale just another chiptune soundtrack, or Vinny and Brad's pure rage against Splatoon. It happens because music will always be the most subjective category in a very subjective set of deliberations.

I feel like this was definitely worse than those, though, I dunno.

I listened to every Go tY podcast leading up to this week, and I don't think there was any "rage" at Splatoon in music or anywhere, just Vinny being confused at it's popularity. Jeff's chiptune comment was ignorant but not malicious and felt more like him feeling like they had to make up for something. Tropical Freeze had it's chance, Dan fucked that up.

This feels like Abby going "I don't like these games, so I'm gonna fight against them winning anything in any category".

I think she's argued her points well, especially when you compare it to other people's first years. Except for that Nier Best Music diss, what the hell was that? But at the same time she has brought a lit that wouldn't be there either, like the discussion around Mario Kart. We also wouldn't get Jeff scatting.

Also I hope you're all ready for 45 minutes of arguing about what Best World means. It gets a lot better after that, thankfully.

hm i think you're reading that as i'd rather her not be there, which is not the case. i was just saying that i disagree with most of her gaming opinions (with the nier thing being the only egregious omg that's so bad take, though i think her arguing for splatoon 2 in best multiplayer was kinda bad) while loving just about everything else about her
