Thanks to a supervolcano's eruption.

Think about it. We were so close to extinction, and now here we are about to hit 8 billion.

I sure wonder what the Earth would look like now had humans gone extinct.

You have salty bitcoin haters that would argue the human population is a bubble because nothing can keep growing as such an alarming rate. Pathetic.

It will happen eventually. Larger terrestrial animals don't have a solid history on surviving doomsday events.

Those Mammals didn't have the brains or resources humans do. We'll survive somehow.

When the whole environment changes and mass extinction occurs, it is highly unlikely humans will have enough sustenance to maintain. Maybe the very extremely rich and powerful, but even that's iffy.

By the time that happens we will already have mastered synthesized plant and animal matter. We already have it now it's just hard to push through the FDA.

The environment will destroy us before the sun. But hey, would be cool to be taken out by the sun.

We can't realistically leave the solar system and expect to survive forever, because the universe is too massive. Unless we can figure out like, wormhole travel or some shit. Time is ticking though.

We'll redirect that meteor or blow it up with nukes. Never ever underestimate humanity.

We'd nuke and kill each other before actually having the capability to detect a meteor in time to deflect it.

I don't want any species to die, but the natural order of things is actually pretty chaotic and bleak, as far as long-term dispositions go. Things change.

By extinct, I mean every last one. You only need about 160 people for a relatively stable repopulation event and things like fertilized egg banks can help that process. The Mt. Toba extinction event allegedly reduced the population of humans to 3k-10k. This was in a time that was lacking in any of the technology we have as well as the geographical limitations.

Unless the planet itself is completely destroyed and every inch of the planet is uninhabitable, along with any nearby stellar safe havens (admittedly, there are only a few), people will always reappear.

We might have evolved beyond today's humans but at the end of the day, it would still be us. Some unintelligent species have survived several mass extictions. Our intelligence puts us several magnitudes above them in terms of chances. I mean, what could have any other species done in previous extinction events? Nothing really.
