You know how in movies, after 2 characters have sex, one of them will be smoking a cigarette afterwards?

Why exactly do they do this? Does smoking feel good after sex?

I'm pretty these scenes were originally enforced by advertising agencies as a kind of product placement, targeting young movie goers.

It became so popular, it changed into shorthand. You want to imply sex, cut to a scene of our breeding couple modestly covered in bed, smoking. Keep those moral guardians happy while working in the realm of imagination and innuendo.

Now it's a dead cliche.
