Not really.

Marvel does it well. WB goofed and Universal hara-kirid, but its not like the Mummy would be good if the Dark Universe wasnt a thing.

Marvel does it well, but the problem is people trying to copy them and failing.

This is why America can't have adult animation that isn't a comedy. Anything with connected story gets frown upon. People that complain about story driven series make up 90% of America and there's no point in creating a series of shows/movies that take place in the same universe and heavily reference each other.

Cinematic universes have mostly been used to make summer blockbuster movies, not deep stories.

Too much of a good thing

Super hero movies are like Cod games

Im sick of seeing the theaters flooded with them.

LOL, what. "Oh my god there are so many good movies coming out I can't handle it, STOP IT MOVIE MAKERS" is what you sound like.

It's not "too much" just because they aren't the type of movie you want to see.

C, i dont like the idea that i have to watch like 5 other movies not even directly related to the one im seeing in order to get the full enjoyment of the movie.

case in point, i didnt see avengers 2, iron man 2 or ant man so when i went to see Civil War i didnt know what the fuck was going on for like 3/4ths of the movie, despite having seen the first two captain america movies

They're not actually that connected though. Avengers 2 is the only one that would detract from your knowledge of Civil War.

The only thing you need to watch to keep up with Civil War is Cap 2, the rest really don't matter to its plot.

Maaaaaybe Avengers 2, but IIRC the beginning of Civil War explains everything clearly enough.

Nah I kinda like it but it did end up screwing me over when I wasn't paying attention.

How am I supposed to see Thor 7 now without having seen Thor 2-6, Iron Man 13, Captain America 4, Avengers 2 and Moon Knight 9?

i felt like for the majority of the movie i was playing catch up. who is elizabeth olsen supposed to be? who is this naked blue guy with every power? where is hulk? why is don cheadle also iron man? whats the deal with ant man? etc

obviously the movie was not that complicated but it felt like i was hanging out with my wife's college friends listening to her talk about people they knew from school, where i didnt know who they are talking about but after a while i ended up picking up what they are discussing.

this killed my interest in marvel movies because they feel like a never ending treadmill of watching movies you maybe dont want to see so you can be prepared to fully enjoy the movie you finally do want to see

Major Deny.

I love cinematic universes. It is awesome to get to see more in the universe that I love. Examples:

Harry Potter
Star Wars
Lord of the Rings

Ones I wish had more:

Cirque du Freak Vampire's Assistant
Sorcerer's Apprentice
The Nines

Those are just series. Cinematic universes would be if all three of those were connected

Harry Potter is expanding with the Fantastic Breasts movies.

Tbh I'd be down for a Harry Potter universe if they explored the world beyond "lol dark wizard overlord". Lemme see Charlie chase some dragons in Romania. Or was that Bill? Idk.

After the fact.

I don't see why that matters, unless you think they have to be planned as universes with spin-offs? But I mean, look at them in books (Hobbit and the Silmarillion, Fantastic Beasts and Quidditch through the Ages) and it's not hard to think that they thought about it when they first purchased the rights
or even in Star Wars, the Holiday Special was a thing

And were hated.

Rogue One has an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and made over a billion dollars on a $200-250 million budget
Fantastic Beasts has a 74% on Rotten Tomatoes and made over $800 million on a $180 million budget
The Hobbit trilogy has an average 66% on Rotten Tomatoes and made almost $3 billion combined on a combined budget of $675 million

I know RT has its flaws and profit doesn't = good but still, they can't really be hated at those levels

Not necessarily.

I've always loved consistency, call backs, sequels, tie-ins, and shared universes. But sometimes I feel when studios try too hard to set one up, it affects the individual films.

It's definitely a case of "I don't like thing, so thing is objectively bad based on my opinion alone and you all suck for liking what I don't like!".
