I thought CC was absolute trash...it didn't do anything right. CT > CC imo. Anyday.

TC, power level Ayla. Just cuz.

For first time play set atb to wait. That'll give you time to get used to the menu during battle and pick your attacks

Grind a bit if needed. In that forest on the way to the castle (not cathedral) there is a spot where you'll see leaves rustling. Go at that spot and 'activate' it or whatever. Some monster will pop out an drop a tent iirc. You can farm those.

The game is somewhat tough starting out but gets easy quick.

overlevelling even by 5 will break the game. it is indeed on the easy (and short) end.

my advice: don't use a faq or guide. everything is fairly simple to figure out with some intuition.

Not really. Only thing I can think of is don't spend all your tabs on Crono like I did my first time. It made some of the alternate endings really hard to get.

Oh and enjoy one of the best JRPGs ever.

A few of the bosses are a little tricky. Nothing crazy, but a death or two isn't surprising. IIRC I squeaked by on this fight my first time but didn't die.

Oh here's a good tip. When you get the haste spell, use it. A lot. Best spell in the game by a landslide.

you'll come across some dark colored (grey or black, idr) chests that glow/sparkle when you touch them. you cannot open this initially, but you will be able to later in the game. make a note of where they are.

once you get the ability to open them, DO NOT open them in the 'past' time periods. instead, touch them in the 'past', and then travel forward and open the chest. doing the 'touch in the past' thing will 'charge' up the item inside, giving you a MUCH superior item when you open the chest in the future. you can go back and get the 'original' item from the 'past' if you so choose. example: a vest that reduces fire damage by 50% turns into a vest that absorbs fire damage.

Double/triple techs, once unlocked, require all characters to be "ready" to use. So if you're fond of a given tech it's ideal to throw speed tabs to the slowest member of the party as they're the one everyone else waiting on.

The game is easy outside of a few fights. Grinding is mostly unnecessary and you can even avoid some fights by just running past mobs, if you want. Otherwise doing it organically by just fighting as you go could give you enough exp/gold.

imo Lucca is the worst party member between her low speed and inability to melee. Marle is saved by her Haste spell. I usually rock one of Frog or Robo because they have a Heal spell which makes life much easier than using Aura whirl double tech. If robo, he gets ALL the speed tabs.

Ayla rocks the Steal ability, and is a suggested party member because stealing from bosses usually garners great goodies.

Once magic is unlocked, as you acquire new party members run back to the magic granter immediately.

You've already encountered them, but there are doors/chests that are locked by a "strange force". You'll get a pendant later in the game that can unlock them. For chests in 600 and 1000 AD, either use above's advice or open the chests in 1000 AD first. There's some timey-wimey nonsense going on, because then you can open the chest again in 600 AD. If you open it in 600 AD, obviously it's gone in 1000 AD.

I think you'll adapt to it pretty well. Personally I would stop using Marle when you get more party members but I know not everyone agrees on that

i recommend against opening them in 1000 AD prior to doing the 'power up' because the rewards are much less significant. power up the chest in 600 AD, travel to 1000 AD and open it for a nice item, then return to 600 AD to open it a second time for a lesser reward.

you won't need to do this, but you can also run through the final dungeon multiple times by doing it first in the future, then in 1000 AD, then 600 AD, etc. that lets you farm lots of XP/AP and get the items contained in the dungeon multiple times. again, not necessary, but fun, especially if you want to deck your party out for fun times in NG+
