I don't know if I would call it a slur. it's weird. but it's not a slur. slurs mean like the N word. pocohantas is not the n word for natives

slur (noun) - a disparaging remark or a slight
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/slur

And the article in question called it a racial slur, which adds an entirely other meaning to it, namely putting it in the same category as the n bomb.

It's childish and stupid, but mocking Warren is hardly using a racial slur. There are plenty of things to rightfully attack Trump on, but this isn't one that really warrants any more attention that any other childish action of his. And highlighting comes more off as grasping at straws.

Attack him for being shit and not treating the office with respect all you want, but focus on the actual matters at hand not because he's making a senator feel sad.

That moment when the president does so many stupid things we should just stop caring is suggested.

That is quite literally the opposite point I was making. Focusing on something as trivial as mocking an individual senator takes attention away from legitimate damaging issues with Trump and gives grounds for the other side to claim that the opposition is merely grasping at straws.

I was refering exclusively to the "no bigger deal than his other fuckups" (paraphrased) portion.

By all means I agree with the underlying message that we should focus on the actual issues that matter but instead we have one half downplaying Trumps actions and the other side saying focus on the bigger issues (which are not only getting swept under but aren't even being discussed with the mind of finding solutions).

Which brings us right back around to "do nothing". As a citizen he represents I think it's quite fair to critique his actions.

She's a white woman who enjoyed all the privileges of being white and faced none of the adversity of being a Native American who used her "minority status" to gain advantage for herself, likely at the expense of an actual minority who the system was designed to advance. She deserves every bit of mockery she gets for that. As do the other clowns like Rachel Dolezal and Shaun King.

Yea I dont understand why people cant see this shit in context. The drinking water incident was just a funny moment. Something we make fun of and move on from a day later...if it was almost anyone else. The fact that Trump attacked others for similar things and tried to himself use those moments to paint himself as better is why people are harder on Trump when he does it. Just like golfing. He golfs. No biggie. Id like him to take fewer vacations but golfing is fine. Unfortunately he spent years trashing obama for it and now does it at a higher rate. Thats why the seemingly small things appear bigger. He brought it on himself and doesnt deserve a pass.

Sure, and I would agree, but singling this childish action as a racial slur is escalation beyond the point that the vast majority of people are willing to go along with.

We've seen this song and dance a million times. Trump says something stupid, a tiny portion of the left makes a bigger deal about it than it really is and claims it's an egregious affront, that viewpoint is published and ridiculed, Trumpanzees point to that as another example of fake news and Democrats not having really legitimate criticisms, and the vast majority of people that don't give a shit think that both sides are being childish and allowing a false equivocation to develop between the two. Wash and repeat.

It literally does nothing good and likely adds to the bad that the Dems experience getting people on their side by focusing on the molehills as if they were the mountains.

Actually, I'd say that an inability to focus on the issues and instead chasing after Trump over nonsense while allowing the middle to think that both sides suck as a result is a main reason why the Dems are where they're at.

And note that I've repeatedly called Trump childish and said that Dems have actual legitimate major grievances against him. That's defending him, how?

You really don't think using the name of a revered Native American to denigrate someone who claims Native heritage isn't a racial slur?

No more so than calling a white dude with deadlocks Bob Marley is a racial slur. The point is that it's a childish insult against a seemingly out of touch senator that may have either made up ancestry to reap the benefits of it, or reached so far back into their history for that connection when they had no realistic upbringing or connection to Native American culture, potentially at the detriment of actual Native American candidates for openings at Harvard. Dumb, yes. Racial slur, no. And not at all a hill to die on.
