An Ohio woman who posed in August with 20,000 bees while pregnant has suffered a stillbirth. Emily Mueller, 33, revealed on Nov. 12 that her baby died in the womb

Stillbirth is defined as the death of a baby after the 20th week of pregnancy but before delivery, explains the Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin. A miscarriage, in contrast, is when a baby dies before the 20th week of pregnancy.

"So many people awaited the arrival of our sweet famous baby who was the star of our wonderful bee maternity photo shoot. Jesus decided he needed his own beekeeper and took our precious son, Emersyn Jacob, back up to Heaven with him," Mueller wrote in a lengthy post on Facebook.

The 33-year-old mother of three other children added: "Our hearts are deeply saddened and broken more than we could have ever imagined. All we truly want are prayers for our family during this difficult time as they have been allowing us to move forward and heal."

She explained that she first noticed her baby's lack of movement on Nov. 9.

"By evening I began to realize I had not felt baby move much and had contractions that felt different than any I have had before," she wrote. "I just told myself he was sleeping but as the time passed, I felt uneasy about it."

So she and her husband went to the hospital, where they were given the news that the baby had died.

"I truly thought we would be sent home with a smile, telling us to just wait for the arrival of our sweet Emersyn, who was due in 6 days," Mueller wrote. "Finding out your baby died is unfathomable. Learning you have to be induced and deliver your deceased child is way beyond that."

Regarding the suspected cause of death, she said: "I have a very strong feeling that this was a blood clotting issue as those traits have been affecting our immediate family for some time."

Mueller, who runs a honey bee removal company with her husband, generated controversy when she did the maternity photo shoot with bees covering her belly in an attempt to raise awareness about how gentle they are.

But as she explained, "Bees have been a huge part of our lives for the past few years so I wanted to incorporate them into something important to me -- like my maternity photos."

Despite being covered by 20,000 bees, she suffered only three minor stings.

According to a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 23,595 stillbirths occurred in the United States in 2013, reports The New York Times.

That's a very basic interpretation.

It rules out both the afterlife and the grand plan and pretends that you not only know God, but also know that he is cruel and malicious.

My issue with her statement was more "needed a beekeeper in heaven" which kinda disgusted me when I read it. If serious, it is stating that she believes that the afterlife for her child would have him be a beekeeper simply because she associates him with that photo. If meant as more of a joke, I understand human nature in optimistic humor in the face of tragedy, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I understand it but I don't agree with it.

The story is presented in a bit of a clickbait-y manner, insinuating a potential link between the bees and the stillbirth, whereas the article explains a hereditary blood clotting condition that is the likely cause of death.

Still, horribly tragic and I feel bad for her, and my sympathies are even deeper considering how close she was to her due date and I truly hope that since the bee thing was controversial, she won't have to suffer cruelty and hate from people that take the bait and try to blame her for this. I hope the high road is taken and the best wishes and support vastly outweigh any ignorance.

My wife had a miscarriage recently. She went in for an 11 week check up and was told they couldn't detect any movement or pulse. And that it looked like it was only 8 weeks along. Went for a followup the next day and it was confirmed.

Of course, it was a hard event for us. Especially her. She had to have an operation to have the remains extracted. Which cost us $1500+ that we didn't really have to spend. But it was that or she'd have to try and wait to pass it naturally, which we have been told can be quite bloody, painful, and traumatic. Couldn't put her through that, especially after she was already heartbroken from the news.

Just another costly misfortune to add to the list, I guess.

Yeah. I'm a religious person I suppose, but no, Jesus has no need for a beekeeper in heaven, God didn't need another angel (I don't think scripture indicates the dead become angels, anyway), and no, all your dead relatives aren't looking down on you, because that is just creepy, I don't want my grandparents watching me poop or sexing my wife and I really don't think she wants her dad watching. Those statements are always said in a nice way to be comforting or whatever but it always really irks me. >_>
