Current Events > Tales of Beresia for $40 as my first Tales game. Worth?

Well, sort of first. I tried the GC one before and didn't like it, but I didn't really give it much of a chance to catch on, so want to give it another shot. Beresia and Zestiria look most interesting to me, but I don't hear much good about the latter :(

And $20 not $40

Yeah it's pretty decent, but you gotta sorta expect some bad shit before you go in. Japanese RPG fanatics always expect their games to be excessively long, so there are a LOT of padding in this game.

But a Tales game, you play for the hilarious character banters and the npc dialogues. It's like a VN with a bit of an action game attached to it.

Gameplay wise, it's sorta middling in terms of Tales. Graces was the true peak, and then the series never really topped it. A lot of people like Vesperia's but... eh it's got MP and it's like 1.5x slower than Graces, objectively. This game's soul system for the attacks is a bit annoying at times. If you're low in soul because of some bs, you'll have a lot of trouble getting it back up. Essentialyl have to rely on pure luck

At $20, Berseria is a steal. And yeah, it's a good first exposure to the Tales series.
