Bernie Bro is not nearly as cool sounding but I was a bro to Bernie and would've actually voted for him instead of wasting my vote on Gary Johnson (despite actually agreeing with Gary on a lot of things it's a waste of time to vote him-- and the guy is kind of a putz) so I guess I'll take it.

gary johnson is a likable guy but half the time i didn't even get what his stances were.

at one point he said he "agreed with bernie on 75% of the important issues." i was like "uh... given that you lead the libertarian party, are you sure about that?"

75% is probably just spitballing but Gary does end up leaning liberal on pretty much every social issue at least because of going so hard on not wanting the government to interfere on things. It's mostly just financial stuff where you'll see divergence. Even then it's probably not as much as you think since I think Gary's primary platform on budget cuts is with foreign stuff and trying to make existing programs more efficient more than your typical republican boogeymen of gutting government programs that help the less fortunate outright.

I did a decent amount of research on him because I didn't want to vote him just because he wasn't Hillary or Donald. Not enough to have a complete picture I'm sure but yeah.

Yeah, I thought he was a big Hillary Clinton supporter during the Obama vs. Hillary primary.

It's the reason for his tweet against the electoral college, I think.

That was the next election when it appeared Romney might win the popular vote (which turned out didn't come that close to happening). Electoral college wouldn't come into play for primary opponents anyway.

It is important, because I'd say 99% of the Republican opposition for Roy Moore boils down to "just don't vote, it isn't worth it". Ben Shapiro has been hugely critical of Moore, but his solution is just to recommend abstaining from voting for either (which is also what he did in Hillary vs. Trump).

Outright endorsing a democratic candidate is huge considering the current political climate. A lot of the negative response I've seen has been "BUT YOU VOTED FOR THE TAX CUTS SO YOU ARE A FRAUD". Like...yeah, he voted for the tax cuts. He's the third most conservative senator. Of course he's going to vote for the tax cuts.

It is important to recognize people who are doing the right thing, I think, I not just have a visceral "oh you're a republican so you've done x,y, and z that I disagree with so I oppose anything you do".

One of the big selling points for corporations was lowering the corporate tax rate to 20%. That 20% could then be further lowered via deductions and loopholes. By establishing the AMT at 20% however, corporations cannot deduct and thus have to pay the FULL 20% tax. Obviously thats not what the Republicans wanted, but its what happens when youre scribbling out a bill at 2 in the morning.

You know, I'm surprised that Al Franken has lasted as long as he has. Don't get me wrong, when I was younger I admired the guy. He was this loud-mouthed, opinionated voice that NBC never could really silence. He didn't play by the rules and he made enemies, but he also began one of the greatest eras of television comedy. But over the years, the more I've learned about him, the less and less I've admired him.

Honestly, knowing what I know about the guy (from the stories of blow in Studio 8H to his bizarre behavior with Tom Davis), I'm surprised none of that precluded him from getting elected.

Looks like Franken is likely to resign tomorrow after basically half of the democratic senators have called for his resignation. If he does, both Franken and Conyers will have been removed within a month or so of allegations breaking. Surprisingly good job by dems!

Franken's mistake was clearly not blaming this on a vast right wing and anti-semitic conspiracy. And that the picture was doctored by the Koch brothers. And how it can't be true because he already ran two races and no one brought it up then. Basically just deny reality long enough and hope everyone forgets or stops caring.

Donald denied allegations from his victims despite being caught talking about them on tape, then he defends Roy Moore against his accusers despite hand-written messages coming up. Donald won the Presidency and Roy is the favorite to win next week.

Conyers and Franken have to varying degrees taken responsibility. Conyers is stepping down and Franken may be leaving tomorrow too.

I can't find the poll right now, but The Young Turks covered one in the past week about how Democrats are much more likely to care than Republicans about reflecting on if they've done something wrong in light of the #metoo movement -- something like 66% to 33%, across both men and women.

There was also a poll on TYT about if you could let scandals like these slide for your vote -- Democrats were ~18% yes while Republicans were ~45%.

It appears to me that something is uneven.
