Lets fire anyone who ever accidentally put their hand in the wrong place then.

TIL that forcing yourself onto someone and sticking your tongue down their throat and later taking a photograph of yourself air groping/actually groping a women's breasts while she slept is "accidentally putting your hands in the wrong place."

The kiss happened in the context of a performance that, based on witness accounts and photographic evidence, was inherently raunchy. So yes, the kiss may have been inappropriate, but you've been far too willing to blow it out of proportion given the context in which it occurred. The air groping is just that: air groping. It's immature, but not sexual assault, and if it didn't come out in conjunction with the kiss story, no one would bat an eyelash at it. I don't think tarring and feathering a man over a single allegation (that was interpreted as a he said/she said situation for the part that you personally have the biggest problem with...there's no photos of the kiss in question) is fair, especially given the context and the circumstances in which the information came to light.

The same goes for the second allegation, which was what I was specifically referring to in my previous post. While Franken may have grabbed his accuser's butt, it's entirely possible to have been an honest mistake in hand placement while pulling her in close for the photo.

This third accusation, however, is both evidence of a pattern, AND it's more sinister in its description (Franken is accused to trapping a woman and trying to force a kiss on her.) This adds weight to the earlier accusations while carrying weight in its own right.

My whole point is that we can't be basing rash calls for punishment based on isolated accounts, because then you might get situations where even legitimate complaints can be blown out of proportion in relation to their severity.

Franken wrote a skit that involved him kissing a female co-star on-stage. He wanted to practice the kiss. Tweeden was uncomfortable, but eventually consented. When they practiced the kiss, Franken slipped her some tongue. She scolded him, but they did the show as planned.

It looks slimy, yes. But in context, its an isolated incident of him overstepping his boundaries. Obviously it takes a much worse light with the recent allegation, but Im not trying to score points for being first to call for punishment.

Franken also wrote a skit where his comedy partner and he were on stage in a skit and his comedy partner revealed he was gay and in love with Franken. The partner brought his parents to the show, and when Franken rejected the partner after having been apparently in a gay relationship with him on the DL for several years, the partner blew his own brains out with a concealed gun and they landed on the parents.

This was in 1975.

Also, this wasn't unusual for the late 70s. Soap was a parody of soap operas, and one of its notable characters was Jody, played by Billy Crystal. Jody is a gay man who is essentially raped by a woman and tries to get custody of the child... and it's all meant to be comedic, essentially. That's probably the same year. 76 or 77. It's crazy. It only popped in my head because it was Saturday Night Live relevant, as Crystal was supposed to be in the very first episode but was cut for time and didn't come back to the show for ten years.

If everyone took the Bible literally, there wouldn't be so many religions. Not saying these views are right but it is possible to be opposed to gay marriage for religious reasons, no matter what the Bible says. If one of these people bakes a cake for a gay wedding, they're taking a part in something they're opposed to.

With gay marriage I feel like you can at least choose to not take part in it, and no harm no foul. But I also believe that businesses should be able to refuse whomever they want, and I know no one in this topic is going to agree with me on that.

If it's a business that receives any sort of public funding or has no nearby alternatives, I don't think you can allow that without also allowing businesses to create a subclass of citizens. And that's where I draw the line. Even without those limiters, it would be too simple for businesses to collude and deny service to groups of individuals, leaving them without a way to do what those in the privileged class take for granted.

I don't think any of the cases that have come up have been about "no gays" at a business. Just services specifically tied to weddings. It's not part of these peoples' religions that gay people shouldn't be allowed to eat, just that they shouldn't marry.

It is tricky and I think the legality of it should depend on whether he broadcasts his views there or not, or publicly endorses the gym alongside his rhetoric.

BUT even though if hes just quietly working out there he shouldnt legally be expelled just for that, again, if they did do it and there was a (totally justified) lawsuit by Spencer against them for it, I would chip in to help pay that settlement
