The cacophony of your alarm wakes you up. Your vision is filled with moderate sunlight as you slowly open your eyes. However, you have no time to be tired. Today is gonna be a busy day.

A lone spotlight shines on Inner Chad sitting on a chair wearing a tracksuit, with inner loser next to him fanning him with a rag, and the Temptress--much to her dismay--giving him a shoulder massage.

Inner loser throws the towel over inner Chads neck, then starts coaching him with some overplayed advice from the Rocky movies.

Another spotlight shines on the controls. The Temptress and inner loser stand idle as inner Chad gets up from his seat and approaches the controls. He cracks his knuckles, then gets to work.

You freshen yourself up in the shower as you think of the plan for today. First, itll be playing games with Allie from the comfort of your homes, then itll be hanging out with Lucy on her break, and finally, studying with Lily and her friend. As you shampoo your hair, you start going through every scenario in which everything goes wrong. Heres hoping that wont be the case.



You sit on the couch, completely refreshed and with a casual set of indoor clothes. Bubs nowhere in sight--though hes probably asleep anyway. You turn on your game console and text Allie that youre online now.

<-Great! Also, I accepted your friend request, so whenever youre ready I can invite you to the party.

Your phone rings. Its Allie, as expected.

Allie, you say as you navigate through some menus, dont ever say swag again, please.

She faintly says something on the other line, but its not very audible for you.

You load up the game you guys decided on--Pew Pew McShooty Wars 7. Sorry, what was that? you say.
Can-- the other end says with some static. O...kay--Okay! Can you hear me? she says with a clear voice. Notably to you, shes talking with a normal volume and normal intonation, instead of her usual reserved and drawn out speech.

Loud and with swag, you say mockingly as you accept Allies party request.

She laughs. I swear I was only saying swag ironically!

Okay, can we stop saying swag now? you say as the match starts loading. So...I AM talking to Allie, right? Not her sibling or roommate or something like that?

Its me, silly! She giggles. And for the record, I dont have any siblings or roommates. Why do you ask?

Well, it just--no offense or anything--but youre usually more...hesitant? When you talk? Im probably not using the best word here.

Oh! Yeah, Im terrible around real people. And the outside. Some shuffling can be heard on the other end. I can be more like myself at home, though.

The match finally starts. You lean forward in anticipation. Are you saying Im not a real person?

She giggles again. I dont know, are you? I dont think a real person would willingly feed a succubus.

You maneuver through the map. I dont think a real person would say swag.

Oh my god! she says with a bit of laughter. Thats it, Im changing teams and Im killing you on sight.

You see the message indicating Allies treason. Youre welcome to try, you say while grinning. Within the game, you find yourself fighting a skirmish alone against 3 other players. Somehow, you barely managed to survive and get away, only to be killed anyway from a long-distance shot. The screen displays your killer--Allie.

Heehee! Allie snickers as she makes more shuffling noises from the other end. Hey Walker, I hope you know I filled that shot with swag.

You narrow your eyes. Are you sure youre still saying it ironically? You say as you respawn, only to be killed again by Allie within seconds.

Are you sure youre not dying to me ironically? she says mockingly. Heehee, Im joking! Ill switch back now.

You see the message of Allie returning to your side. The game goes on, with her dominating most of the match. Youre honestly just sitting in awe at her skill level as the screen transitions back to the party menu.

Hey, uh, Allie? How the hell. You say while blinking a few times.

A moment of silence ensues. Suddenly, Allie erupts with an Ahh! More shuffling sounds on the other end. I look like a total loser right now, dont I?!

She hangs up abruptly.

You look back to the TV and see that she went offline as well. You decide to text her.

->Allie, is everything okay? Whats wrong?

A few minutes later and she responds.

<-Walker. Being too good at video games is grounds for being a loser. T_T

Texting isnt working too well. You call her, but she immediately declines the call. A few seconds after, she calls you back.

Im sorry, she says monotonously.

Allie, its okay. You dont have to be ashamed of your hobbies.

Im sorry. I just get really insecure about these things, she says softly, then pauses. Ill talk to you about it another time. I mean, if you dont mind listening.

I dont mind.

Thanks. Oh, but that was a fun game though. If youre ever bored, call me up for another game.

She hangs up.

Inner Chad motions at inner loser for some water. A hand holds a bottle of water in front of his face, but much to his surprise, its the Temptresss hand instead. He notices that her curves became slightly more accentuated, but not quite at the point that they were before. He doesnt think anything of it and simply takes the water from her.

She nods at him, expressing some gratitude for entertaining Allie.

You stretch out a bit and look at the time. Its nearly 2. You go knock on Bubs door, but theres no response from inside. Just then, a portal erupts next to the door. Thanks bro! you say as you hop in.

Your vision distorts, then everything transitions back into view. You find yourself inside of a bathroom stall. Thank god it worked today, you say as you exit the stall, only to realize that there are no wall urinals.

You quickly dash out of there at lightning speed. Luckily, no one was in the bathroom, nor was there anyone to witness you exiting the womens bathroom. You let out a sigh of relief, then make your way to the library. As you approach the library doors, you check the time again. 2:01.

Lucy leans against the counter, bored. Upon seeing you enter the library, she brightens up and waves at you. She nods at an older lady behind her--presumably the lead librarian--to acknowledge her break, then walks up to you. Sup, nerd, she says playfully.

You slightly wave your hand to greet her back, but she grabs it and starts walking you out of the library. You notice that her halo is black today.

Lets go! I really need a coffee right now, she says as she brings you to the direction of the cafeteria, then lets go of you hand as the two of you walk side-by-side. So, howve ya been? she says with a smile.

You smile back at her. Same as usual. You?

Her expression sours up. God, had a terrible morning, actually. Its a real good thing you didnt ride with me today cuz theres so many assholes on the road.

You raise one eyebrow. Are you sure you arent one of them? Ive seen how you drive.

She lightly punches your arm and smiles at you. Hey! Have I gotten us killed yet?

You rub your arm. I dont thats how it works.

The two of you arrive at the cafeteria. Lucy immediately jogs to the cafe counter, with you following behind. Theres no line, so she was able to order her drink quickly.

Strawberry again? you say as you watch her grab her frappe from the counter.

She takes a sip, then closes her eyes and smiles in peace. Strawberry reminds me of Heaven. I dont know why. She holds the drink out towards you. Here, want a sip?

You nod and lean over to lightly sip out of her straw. The familiar mix of mint and strawberry hits your tongue, causing you to stop drinking and blush a little.

She grins at you then takes another sip while the two of you walk to a small table, then looks at you with a more serious face as you both sit down. I sensed a Crossing Field this morning, around this building.

You get a little nervous hearing this.

She sips her drink more; her halo turns golden, and she looks at you with concern. Hey...please, stay safe, okay? Even I can sense demonic energy from you, which paints a target on you.

Your hands get a little sweaty. Ill, uh, be fine. I think.

She puts her palm on top of one of your hands and smiles at you. If youre in danger, Ill come running to save you. She finishes up her drink and gets up to throw her drink away. Thats a promise.

You feel her hand on your shoulder for a brief moment as she walks past you. You get up and walk up to her as she disposes her cup. Thanks, Lucy.

Her halo turns black and she grins at you. Yeah yeah. Cant have my ticket to Heaven dying, now can I? She starts heading back to the library.

You follow at her side, making mundane small talk along the way. The two of you stand before the library doors.

Well, Lucy begins, my breaks over. See you around?

You nod at her, then watch her wave back at you as she goes back inside. You look at your phone. Only 2:30. You have about half an hour to spare before your agreed meeting.

You decide to just head there right now. The meeting place that you all agreed on is under a tree in the outdoor area of the campus where students walk between buildings, so you make your way back to the entrance of the building. As you step outside, youre greeted by vibrant sunlight shining on the many students hustling through the pavement. As you move forward, you can see some students sitting on the grass with books in their hands, while some are simply taking a nap. You walk towards the shade of a large tree, where there are no other students nearby--except for one thats sitting against the tree. As you approach this person, their shoddy attire gets clearer; a black hoodie with its hood up to cover a red baseball cap, a loose pair of grey jeans, and red sneakers.

The moment they see you walking towards them, they immediately rise up. Walky, they say with a familiar raspy yet androgynous voice, Arent you a little too early?

Oh! You put a hand behind your head. Are you Lilys friend?

They put down their hood, revealing their orange hair tied in a short ponytail. Walky. I literally sit next to you in class, they say with a very frank tone.

You look closer at their face. Their teal eyes and sparse freckles stand out to you, ringing a bell. Ah! you say while snapping your fingers. You ARE that chick that sits next to me! Avery, right?

She walks up to you; her tall stature being more apparent as she stands in front of you. Yeah. I guess we never actually talk to each other though, she extends her hand to you, so nice to meet you, she says nearly devoid of any emotion.

You shake her hand, only to be met with a very firm grip as Avery blankly stares at you.

Youve had a lot to...deal...with, havent you? she says while frowning every so slightly.

You laugh awkwardly. Uh...I guess? Why do you ask?

She lets go of your hand, then walks back to her spot under the tree. Just...betting...on a hunch. She mildly glares at you, then sighs and tries to smile instead. My bad if Im coming off as unpleasant. Youre Lilys close friend, after all. She squats down to reach into her backpack on the ground, taking out a small bag of cookies. These are for later, but you can try some if youd like.

Something feels off. She doesnt seem completely hostile, but you remain cautious. Sorry, Im not really hungry right now.

She shrugs and puts the cookies back nonchalantly. Well, at least youre not naive. She stands up and crosses her arms while looking at you with a bored expression.

The two of you stare at each other in silence. This is really awkward for you. You decide to slowly walk towards the tree so you can have a seat.

She stares you down as you walk, but isnt really doing anything else even as you come closer.

You take a spot thats near her, but not quite next to her, then sit against the tree while looking out towards the campus.

She stops staring at you and looks in the same direction youre looking, then goes back to sitting against the tree as she closes her eyes to relax.

The two of you sit in silence, revelling only in the ambient noises of birds chirping and flying, leaves crunching, and people walking as they chatter. Minutes pass.

Avery puts her hands in the pockets of her hoodie. Hey. What do you think of Lily?

Youre caught off guard by her question. What, uh, what do you mean?

She opens her eyes and glances at you. Youve been friends for a long time now, right? She puts both her hands behind her head to enhance her relaxation. Do you think of her as anything more than a friend?

You start to blush and look away from her. W-Why are you asking?

She lets out an elongated exhale. Just curious.

Another moment of awkward silence. You look around for anything to focus on other than this. In the distance, you see a girl walking towards the two of you. The wind causes her skirt to flutter a bit, exposing more of her black leggings. Every step she makes with her winter boots cause her loose boat-neck sweater to bob a bit alongside the purse shes carrying at her side. She notices the two of you and waves with a smile, then starts jogging to you guys.
Avery stands up and briefly looks at you. Just dont hurt her, she says with her usual bored tone, but with a hint of ferocity. She walks up to the running Lily to give her a hug.

Lily ends her embrace, then walks past Avery and towards you, waving at you. Walky! Hi!

You stand up and wave back at her awkwardly. H-hey Lily--

She interrupts you with a tight hug, then lets go.

Youre met with a close-up of her vibrant, grinning face, causing you to blush and turn away.

Inner Chad stands frozen on the controls. Both inner loser and the Temptress are looking at him with curiosity. He yanks inner loser to take his spot and takes a seat on the conveniently placed couch.

She takes a seat in a spot between where you and Avery were sitting. Thanks so much again, you guys! Im seriously screwed for this test.

Avery walks back to her spot and chuckles at Lilys remark, much to your surprise. You should have listened in class then.

Lily puffs her cheeks out at Avery. I did! Im just dumb! She lets out the air in her mouth. Oh! Avery, Walky, are you guys familiar with each other yet?

You glance at Avery to meet her blank gaze at you, then back to Lily. Yeah. Were cool.

Lily puts her arm around your neck and puts her other arm around Averys neck. Yay! Isnt it great making new friends?

Inner loser looks back to inner Chad with desperation. Inner Chad looks away.

Both you and Avery push yourselves away from Lilys hold.

Lily takes out some papers out of her purse. Okay! You guys ready to start?

Avery takes out a textbook from her backpack. Yeah.

You take out...a thumbs up.

The three of you hold the study session smoothly, mostly with Lily asking too many questions about the study guide. Against your expectations, Avery acted moderately friendly with you--at least with Lily around.

Lily stares pensively at her study guide--now marked with sporadic notes. She throws it in the air. I give up! Break time. She leans over to Avery with puppy-dog eyes.

Avery lets out a defeated sigh. Alright. You can have some cookies now, she says as she takes out the bag of cookies.

Yay! Lily claps with glee, reaching into the bag and grabbing a cookie fervently. Youre the best, Avery!

Avery looks away with her usual blank expression, though you can faintly see a smile form on the corner of her lips. She stands up. Restroom, she says as she starts walking away.

Okay! Lily exclaims as she nibbles on her cookie. Stay safe!

Youre drowning out the sound of the crowd around you, leaving only the crunching of Lilys cookie as you sit next to her without saying a word to each other.

She glances at you with some reservation, then looks back to the campus.

You look away as you remember the dates you went to. Uh. I was busy.

She stares at you blankly as she finishes up her cookie, then smiles. At least youre safe. I was a little worried since I usually hear from you everyday, even if it's just a 'goodnight.

You dare not tell her it's mostly the Thirst Hyperdrive that's making you text her everyday. Yeah...sorry.

She grabs another cookie from the bag. Its okay! Like I said, I'm not actually mad. She holds the bag of cookies towards you. You should try one! Avery's really good at baking!

You raise your hands to decline her offer. Im good. Thanks. You look around and see if Averys done with her business, but see no sign of her. Speaking of Avery, when did you guys become friends? I never see you guys talk in class.

Lily chuckles. We sit on the opposite ends of class, silly. That, and shes a pretty serious student.

You think back to all the times youve seen Avery sleeping in class. Sure. Serious. Lets go with that.

She bites half of her cookie away. Oh, my bad, I didnt actually answer your question. Weve been friends since elementary school, but she moved away when we got into high school. She finishes this cookie as well with a large chomp. But thanks to you, high school didnt feel lonely!

Inner loser jumps at the sound of the printer next to the controls suddenly turning on. It shoots out a photo of you and Lily sitting together in the same table in the school cafeteria--your first meeting. The photo shows a date on the corner, dating it all the way back in freshman year.

Lily starts rummaging in the bag for another cookie. Im also just really glad Im able to see her again here in college.

A hand emerges behind her to steal the bag and her cookie out of her hands. She turns around to see Avery with her usual bored expression.

Im gonna have to cut you off, miss, Avery says as she tucks the cookie back in the bag, then stows it away in her backpack.

Lily hugs Avery by her waist in desperation. Noo! Officer please, I need sustenance!

Avery shakes her off. You have the right to please remain silent and go back to studying.

She pouts, then sits back upright and grabs her papers once more. Fine. But only because Im expecting more cookies after this.

With that, you resume the study session. Not a sound comes out from any of you, except for the ruffling of papers and the flipping of textbook pages.

Lily breaks the silence by throwing her papers in the air once again. I cant concentrate like this. I need a coffee. She gets up and faces the two of you. Wanna come along, guys?

Avery waves her hand and shakes her head. Not interested. I need to keep studying, anyway.

Lily looks to you. Walky?

Uh you say absentmindedly and look to the side, only to be met by Averys subtle glare. Its almost like shes trying to tell you to say yes. You quickly dart your gaze away and look back to Lily as you stand up. Yeah. I could use a drink, too.

Lily jumps in place and claps a little. Sweet! Well be right back, Avery, she says as she turns around and starts walking to the building.

Avery waves her off without breaking her focus on the textbook.

You walk up to Lilys side and accompany her to the cafeteria. As you pass through the hallway, neither of you say a word, unless you count Lily humming softly as she walks. You decide to break the ice. Hey, uh, Lily.

Hm? she says with a bit of a hum.

Inner loser clenches his fist before he resumes control.

Is it, uh, is it true that-- you try to ask her something, but the moment you step into the cafeteria, you notice that nobodys here. Your eyes widen and you quickly look around for Lily.

Whats true, Walky? she says with a smile, oblivious to her surroundings.

With your mouth agape, you take a step back. Suddenly, you hear some arrogant laughter in the background. You look around to find the source.

A young man sitting on one of the tables stares at the two of you with a smug look, which does not do justice to the golden halo he wears. He gets up and adjusts his black leather jacket. How adorable. We got a pair of Demons wanderin around school, he says condescendingly.

Youre frozen in fear. Lucy isnt around to help you. You try to direct your jittery vision towards Lily, who is simply standing with her head tilted in confusion.

The figure sighs. No hard feelings, alright? Jus tryin to do my job here, he says as he materializes two golden knives in his hands. In an instant, he springs forward and starts running to you at an alarming rate.

As the sight of him grows bigger as he gets closer to you, you close your eyes in fear. All you hear is the rapid sound of his footsteps. Just then, you hear the sound of the wind whistling, followed by a pained scream. You open your eyes to see that the man is covering his bleeding shoulder with his hand. You look around trying to figure out what just happened and see Avery running up behind Lily and striking her neck, knocking her unconscious.

Avery looks down at her body lying on the ground. I was careless she say somberly. She then looks at you with a fierce glare.

You immediately notice a golden halo on her head. Avery...youre an Angel?

She sighs and faces forward to look at the man. Walky, she says as she materializes her bow and draws it, youre an idiot.

A bolt of light whizzes towards the mans other shoulder, wounding it and causing him to scream again.

He coughs. Avelyn! What the fuck are you doing?!

A favor. She draws her bow once again.

He grits his teeth and intensifies his frown. Dont you dare shoot me again. If you do, the higher-ups will hear about this. He gives a smug grin again. You dont wanna mess with them, do you?

She furrows her brow as her hands shake a little, then retracts her bow and looks away.

He starts laughing again. Heh! Thats fucking right, bitch. Know your place. He slowly walks up to the three of you, spinning his knives around to look flashy.

Avery doesnt move an inch.

The man stands in front of her now, though his attempt to exert pressure doesnt seem very effective since hes not that much taller than her. He flashes a shit-eating grin and raises his knife, ready to slash her.

She simply closes her eyes.

Just then, a chair slides through the floor and crashes into the mans legs, knocking him off balance.

Another object flies through the air and strikes the back of his hand, knocking his knife off. The object becomes clearer to you as it reaches the apex of its bounce--lip balm.
Within a second, the man finds himself pinned face-flat on the ground with his own knife pressed against his cheek.

You stare in awe as you realize that Lucy just did all that. You notice that her halo is dyed a deep black.

Aww, is wittle Anthony being a wittle asshole again? she says mockingly, still keeping a firm hold on him.

Lucielle?! he says with the muffled obstruction that comes with having your face pressed against the floor. Get the hell off me! he yells and tries to struggle.

Lucy presses the knife deeper into his skin, nearly drawing blood. Ooh, you probably shouldnt move around too much if you care about your face.

He grits his teeth. Youre enjoying this, arent you? Youre goddamn crazy.

She grins. Youre damning your boss now? Wow. Heaven sure let itself go. She puts more weight against Anthonys face, effectively preventing him from talking coherently. Let me just make it clear to you--I dont give a shit if the higher-ups start hunting me for whats about to happen. She raises the knife. Give em the middle finger for me when you get back, mkay? She brings it down on his neck with full force.

No blood gushes out. Instead, his body--along with the knives--disintegrate into particles of light, slowly floating to the sky.

She stands up, then stomps her way towards Avery.

Avery glances at Lucy, then looks back away.

Lucy clicks her tongue. Coward, she says frankly to her face. She glances at you, then at Lilys unconscious body. With a sigh, she looks back at Avery. Grab your friend. We gotta leave now. Its unsafe here, she says as she starts walking back to the hallway, motioning you guys to follow her.

The four of you--with Avery carrying Lily on her shoulder--walk through the hallway, now populated once again with people. They dont seem to think anything of Lilys situation; probably chalking it up as drunk shenanigans.

You look at Avery, who isnt saying anything as she holds onto Lily dearly. You also notice that you cant see her halo anymore. You look at Lucy, whos walking at a brisk pace. You scratch your head. Lucy...did you just kill that guy back there?

Lucy smiles at you. Pfft, nah. Hell be back in three days. Angels cant be killed down here.

Oh, you say as your hands slowly recede into your pockets. So, uh, whats the plan now?

We get in my car, get the hell away from here, and lay low for a while. She glances back to Avery. You dont have to come, Avelyn. They only want me, him, and your friend.

Avery clutches Lily tightly . I have to keep her safe.

Lucy shrugs. Suit yourself.

You worriedly look at Avery, who has her usual blank face--though this time theres a hint of sorrow on it--then you look back at Lucy. Is a car really gonna do much? Dont they have, like, wings and stuff?

She looks at you with a tired expression. Well, do you have any better ideas?
